The New Hanover County Facilities Management Department is seeking a Trades Technician to perform repairs on County facilities including general maintenance and carpentry duties such as: painting; plumbing; roof and soffit; drywall and siding; doors and locks; windows; and cabinets and installing/removing furnishings
Responsibilities for this role include:
- Assists with construction and renovation of County buildings and facilities and identifying needed repairs
- Performs repairs on County facilities including: painting; plumbing; roof and soffit; drywall and siding; doors and locks; windows; and cabinets and installing/removing furnishings.
- Maintains tools and equipment.
- Estimates materials and equipment necessary for projects and assigned tasks.
- Research equipment and material needs for projects and assist in obtaining quotes and managing contracted work
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level as assigned by Supervisor.
- Performs work during emergency/disaster situations.
- Serves in the on-call pool.
Knowledge of:
- Basic construction methods and applicable building codes;
- Painting techniques and preparing surfaces for finishing work;
- General mechanical operations;
- Techniques for safe handling of power tools.
Skilled in:
- Basic carpentry, plumbing, painting, drywall installation and masonry in a commercial and/or industrial setting;
- Ability to read and work from architectural drawings;
- Installing locks and door hardware
- Physical ability and dexterity to perform duties and responsibilities of job;
- Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction

Hours: 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday.
Must be available to report for emergency work assignment during emergency situations.
Employment Type: Full-time, non-exempt
Salary Information: The hiring range for this position is $36,325.00 - $49,038.00 plus a competitive benefits package.
Salary will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market considerations.

Qualifications

Minimum Training and Experience High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) and one year of related maintenance experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Required:
- Valid Driver's License (from any state) and good driving record required at time of application.
- Valid North Carolina Driver's License required by first date of employment with good driving record.
