The Department:
You will join a nationally accredited agency (one of only five agencies in the State of California) by the Commission for the Accreditation of Parks & Recreation Agencies (CAPRA) amongst a team dedicated to upholding the department's mission to promote community health and wellness while building a diverse culture that embraces change and continuous improvement. The Position: Desired candidates should have experience in the foodservice industry and a solid understanding of basic cleaning practices and chemical safety compliance. Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor and Kitchen Coordinator, the role involves performing tasks related to maintaining kitchen cleanliness, ensuring safety compliance, and organizing kitchen and dining areas. The scheduled hours for this position are primarily between 10:30 AM to 2:30 PM, Monday through Friday.

Key Responsibilities
-
- Comply with all food and health safety regulations & requirements
- Assist with serving lunch and clearing & cleaning dining room tables
- Operate dishwasher to clean and sanitize dishes, trays, pot, pans, silverware etc.
- Clean, wash and sanitize all kitchen serving surfaces, including carts, food carriers, etc.
- Operate and/or clean various kitchen appliances as needed (stove, oven, microwave, steam table, coffee maker, refrigerator/freezer, ice machine, washer/dryer, sealer, label machine)
- Clean & organize storerooms under the direction of Kitchen Coordinator or Supervisor
- Notify Kitchen Coordinator or Supervisor when kitchen supplies are needed
- Follow written and oral instructions
- Keep simple records
- Performs related work as required

Qualifications
-
- Must meet State of California Tuberculosis test requirements
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, County of San Diego Food Handler's certification
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, CPR and first aid certification
- Knowledge of food service practices
- Experience working with seniors preferred

Experience & Education
-
- Food service experience and/or education desirable.
- Valid California Class C Driver's License
- The person hired must wear standard apparel as prescribed by the Parks & Recreation Department

- Ability to stand, sit, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, reach
- Exposure to the outdoors
- Be able to lift up to 50 pounds
*Part-time employees cannot exceed 980 total hours worked within one fiscal year.
