Job Summary

Supports technical computer and network systems support work at the basic level. Installs, configures, and maintains computer workstations, software, hardware and related equipment in a local and/or wide area network environment. Performs basic local and remote troubleshooting and problem resolution. Performs basic network administration duties. This classification lies above that of Technology Services Technician Trainee and below that of Technology Services Technician II.

Essential Functions

1. Responds to trouble calls on the Help Desk; initiates trouble tickets; and troubleshoots and resolves problems related to technology hardware, software, and connectivity both remotely and onsite. Refers more complicated problems to higher-level technical staff.

2. Installs, configures, and relocates technology equipment, peripherals, software, and networking components in a local and/or wide area network environment.

3. Provides basic level assistance and consultation on system usage including word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, data and file transfers, databases, and other district approved software and systems in accordance with existing hardware and software standards.

4. Implements routine preventive maintenance procedures per DCPS policies and procedures.

5. Coordinates warranty work for assigned areas.

6. Performs other duties as assigned.

Probation: Six (6) months


Qualifications

Open Requirements:

A one (1) year combination of education, training and experience installing, configuring, and maintaining Windows and/or Unix/Linux microcomputer systems, which includes the operation of microcomputers using word processing, spreadsheet applications, database, and network software.

Education may be substituted for experience for coursework, major, or degree; in Computer Science, Data Processing, Management Information Systems, or a related field; as follows: twelve (12) semester hours of course work for one (1) year of experience; an Associate's degree for two (2) years. Certification in A+ and/or Network + may substitute for one (1) year of experience.

Promotional Requirements:

All permanent employees who have worked for one (1) year as Technology Services Technician Trainee may be automatically promoted into this classification based upon the recommendation of the department head. All permanent employees who have worked as a TST Trainee who have reached the required 1 year of experience or equivalent through experience, education, and/or certifications may also be automatically promoted into this classification based upon the recommendation of the department head.

Licensing:

A valid Florida driver's license is required prior to appointment and must be maintained during employment in this class. Must furnish an automobile in good condition for use on School Board business for which mileage compensation will be paid.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities



  • Basic knowledge of computer systems, servers, and workstation installations, including operation and preventive maintenance
  • Basic knowledge of basic network administration and troubleshooting
  • Basic knowledge of microcomputer software including word processing, spreadsheet applications, data base, network software and data communications
  • Basic knowledge of computer hardware, software and data communications functionality and capability
  • Basic knowledge of computer analysis and design principles
  • Basic knowledge of effective precautionary procedures for protecting and maintaining electronic data security
  • Basic knowledge of computer associated equipment such as printers, scanners, and digital cameras
  • Basic oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Basic customer service skills
  • Ability to read, understand and apply knowledge acquired from computer manuals, software instructions, and by accessing technical support
  • Ability to determine and meet user computer system and workstation needs
  • Ability to prepare and maintain documentation
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
  • Ability to assist and provide basic instruction to users in both one-on-one and small group settings
  • Ability to perform duties in accordance with district standards and policies
