JOB TITLE:

Director, Technology Transfer Office

JOB PURPOSE:

The University of Wyoming's Technology Transfer Office serves as a focal point for innovation, research, and entrepreneurship at the University. The mission of the Technology Transfer Office is to provide University innovators the means to achieve commercial, economic, and social impact. The technology transfer team reviews innovation disclosures, conducts impact assessments, engages in protection and management of UW intellectual property, negotiates agreements with industry and startups, and charts the path towards economic and social impact.

The Director will play an important role in promoting commercialization, collaboration, and entrepreneurship across the campus, working with the University's incubator IMPACT 307, The Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, the Office of Industry and Strategic Partnerships, and other units. The Director will also be responsible for all operational, financial, and personnel activities of the technology transfer office to build and maintain a strong technology transfer team.

The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the United States, as sponsorship for work authorization or work visas is not available for this position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop Relationships

Build relationships across the University to raise awareness of technology commercialization, understand the research being conducted in relationship to addressing potential industry needs, and encourage utilization and commercialization of the research and resulting intellectual property. Support research and entrepreneurial interests and goals of faculty, researchers, and students. Introduce internal and local resources to faculty, students, and staff if there is an interest in formation of a start-up company. Advise and educate faculty, staff, and students regarding protection of intellectual property and technology commercialization matters.

Support University Research Offices

Coordinate with the University's Research Services and Office of Sponsored Programs to draft appropriate contract language on various research and collaboration agreements to protect IP rights.

Reporting:

Assist in preparation of written reports for Board of Trustees and University administration. Attend meetings as requested and participate in developing and maintaining infrastructure to enable successful technology transfer.

Outreach, Marketing, and Education:

Work with staff to develop creative marketing and licensing strategies. Represent the University at professional meetings and conferences, technology transfer trade conferences, investment and economic development meetings and events, e.g. AUTM or LES meetings and other national, state, and local meetings as appropriate.

General Responsibilities:

WORK LOCATION:

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus with limited eligibility for remote work and/or a flexible work schedule upon discussion.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education: Graduate Degree in a STEM field
  • Experience: 5 or more years in technology transfer or equivalent business showing progressively increasing responsibility
  • Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • CLP/RTTP Certification
