Overview

Responds to incoming phone calls. Takes and relays messages to the appropriate people. Performs telephone triage. Greets and checks in patients according to our registration scripting and procedure. Collect co-pays when required, keeps abreast of vision insurance plans. Handles patient chars including documenting patient care, patient and family education and other related information. Is responsible for patient care. Rooms and collects patient assessment data. Assists physicians during treatment, testing and examinations. Educates the patients on all options available to them in regards to contact leases and/or glasses. Is responsible for ordering and dispensing of contact lenses and glasses. Is able to adjust, fit, and dispense glasses. Maintain the stock of contact lenses, frames and lenses, returning defective merchandise in a timely manner to receive proper credit. Prepares invoices for payment using proper coding, Maintains timely flow of patients. May be required to work overtime or alternate shifts if physician schedule or patient flow requires. Will work alternate Saturdays. Performs other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Evaluates prescription in conjunction with client's vocational and avocational visual requirements.
  • Determines client's current lens prescription, when necessary, using lensometer or lens analyzer and client's eyeglasses.
  • Recommends specific lenses, lens coatings, and frames to suit client needs.
  • Assists client in selecting frames according to style and color, coordinating frames with facial and eye measurements and optical prescription.
  • Measures client's bridge and eye size, temple length, vertex distance, pupillary distance, and optical centers of eyes.
  • Prepares work order and instructions for grinding lenses and fabricating eyeglasses.
  • Verifies finished lenses are ground to specification.
  • Heats, shapes, or bends plastic or metal frames to adjust eyeglasses to fit client.
  • Instructs clients in adapting to, wearing, and caring for eyeglasses.
  • Sells and fits contact lenses.
  • Sells optical goods such as binoculars, plano sunglasses, magnifying glasses, and low vision aids.
  • Repairs damaged frames.
  • Selects and orders frames for display.
  • Grinds lens edges or applies coating to lenses.
  • Computes amount of sale and collects payment for services.

Education and Experience

Experience in optical, optometry or ophthalmic field preferred


Certification/Licensure

High School graduate
ABO preferred
