Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Project Manager (
CAES Program Development) for the Center for Advanced Energy Systems (
CAES) within the School of Engineering.
CAES currently operates as the Field Managers for the Department of Energy Industrial Training and Assessment Center (
ITAC) Program. The Field Manager works directly with the
ITAC Program Manager at
DOE while focusing on program quality assurance. As the Field Manager,
CAES supervises all the institute of higher education (
IHE) centers in the program and serves as a liaison between the ITACs and
DOE. The program provides no-cost energy assessments to small and medium sized manufacturing plants in the US and has been operating for over 30 years.
The Research Project Manager (
CAES Program Development) is an integral member of
CAES. The Research Project Manager (
CAES Program Development) reports to the Center Director and plays a critical role to the internal functions of the office but is also outward facing through direct contact with
ITAC Directors and Faculty. The Research Project Manager (
CAES Program Development) manages a variety of projects, programs, and supports
CAES initiatives.. Completes work independently with broadly defined work objectives and limited review of overall results. Performs professional work that requires specialized to general knowledge of mechanical engineering, Energy Systems Engineering. Information Technology.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
- Develops and shares contributions with the other IAC universities to collaborate with them to build valuable contributions that are used to improve the program.
- Integrating DOE priorities on practices and technologies into IAC operations, including decarbonization, resiliency planning, smart manufacturing, product line diversification, cybersecurity, energy management, and commercial building and wastewater treatment assessments.
- Collaborates with third-party organizations with relevant subject expertise such as the national laboratories, Manufacturing USA Institutes (e.g., CYMANII for cybersecurity, CESMII for smart manufacturing), and state, regional, and Federal partners (e.g., NIST MEP).
- Coordinates CAES IAC research to support new program features and publications.
- Partners with the DOE program team to maximize the reach and success of the Implementation grants program.
- Provide training on both technical issues and programmatic priorities. Will remain current on best practices in industrial energy efficiency and promote these amongst the centers.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Requires a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Energy Systems Engineering; or an equivalent experience.
- Also requires a minimum of five years of relevant professional experience with energy systems or similar field or similar field.

- Abilities with performing and leading university research programs.
- Experience with leading team meetings.
- Experience with hiring and training new staff.
- Familiarity with the Industrial Assessment Center program or Department of Energy funded programs and grants.
