BSOM is currently seeking to hire multiple Peer Tutors for for the 2024-2025 Block 2 academic year.
The Peer Tutoring Program offers academic support for medical students through group sessions or one-on-one tutoring led by peer tutors. As a tutor you will be expected to help your assigned student(s) develop a deeper understanding of course materials, help clarify any course concepts and to support and encourage the student(s). Tutors are expected to maintain a professional work ethic, demeanor, and appearance while tutoring. We also want this program to provide leadership and personal development to the tutors. Tutors are expected to perform a variety of functions.
Other responsibilities include:
* Leading weekly one-on-one or small group sessions that fit the needs of the student
* Reviewing classroom materials and assignments
* Discuss questions, help students understand key concepts discussed in the classroom
* Sharing skills to improve academic performance, including study strategies, note-taking skills and approaches to answering test questions.
* Assisting students with test preparation, papers and other academic tasks
* Providing students positive and constructive feedback
* Providing the Peer Tutor Coordinator with at least 4 hours of availability each week to allot enough time for the 45-minute sessions with assigned student(s)
Skills - Tutors use a variety of skills and academic knowledge to provide the most comprehensive help possible.
Skills may include:
* Using knowledge of the academic subject
* Strong verbal and written communication skills to clearly explain challenging concepts, provide instruction and deliver feedback
* Ability to motivate and encourage students to improve their academic performance
* Creativity and flexibility in order to personalize their learning approach for individual student
* Patience and compassion for students as they develop skills and improve their performance |
