The
Department of Physics at North Carolina State University invites applications for a postdoctoral position in observational stellar astrophysics. The successful candidate will work with Prof. Ian Roederer on the analysis, interpretation, and publication of stellar abundances.
Specific duties include work related to two ongoing programs based on high-resolution optical and ultraviolet spectra of metal-poor stars. One project involves the analysis of Hubble Space Telescope
STIS spectra to better understand the role of transuranic fission in the rapid neutron-capture process. The other project involves the analysis of archival Keck
HIRES spectra to study the chemical evolution of germanium. The successful candidate will also be encouraged to pursue independent research on new or existing projects.
This position will be based in the Department of Physics, and the successful candidate can expect regular interaction with other members of the NC State astrophysics group. The desired start date is August 18, 2025, but is negotiable.
