The Interior Intern, under immediate supervision, learns and gains competency according to customer specifications and Duncan Aviation approved procedures in a safe and organized work area in one, or a combination, of the following shops: Finish, Cabinet, Interior Completions, Upholstery or Sewing. This position maintains and cleans shop equipment; organizes shop and hangar areas; and completes appropriate documentation in timely manner. Essential Job Functions 1. Under immediate supervision, performs a range of job functions in the Interior department. Finish:
- Prepares cabinet surfaces and substrates for paint or finish and miscellaneous plastic, metal and leather parts for paint or dye to customer satisfaction and Duncan Aviation approved procedures using appropriate equipment.
- Applies stains, dyes, paints or finishes to prepared parts. Mixes paint and stains as needed.
- Performs basic detail work, polish and clean-up on finished items.
Cabinet:
- Laminates, re-laminates, repairs and modifies existing aircraft cabinets to customer satisfaction and Duncan Aviation approved procedures using appropriate equipment.
- Reads blue prints and builds new cabinet parts per blueprints. Orders necessary parts as required.
- Performs specialty work using plexi-glass, mirrors and sheet metal products.
Interior Completions:
- Removes and installs interiors including carpeting, insulation, soundproofing, fabric accessories, etc. in aircraft using hand tools according to Duncan Aviation approved procedures.
- Strips materials, preps and repairs panels. Recovers flat work and accessories using various fasteners and hand tools.
- Prepares and paints and dyes miscellaneous plastic, metal and leather parts.
Upholstery/Sewing:
- Prepares seats for upholstering by stripping all foam and covers using various hand tools according to standard operating procedures.
- Disassembles, prepares, repairs, recovers and reassembles seats, miscellaneous seat parts, flatwork including minimal sewing, and accessories for paint.
- Cleans glue off panels and strips materials from parts.
- Foams small chair parts (i.e. armrests, headrests, shell, etc.).
- Uses sewing instruction manuals to sew kit and core seat covers, small seat parts and miscellaneous items (i.e. armrests, headrests shells, curtains, control boots, flight deck armrest and pouches, wind laces, glare shields and crash pads, covers on burn cushions, etc.) for various makes and models of aircraft.
- Patterns small seat parts and miscellaneous items (i.e. armrests, headrests, shells, curtains, control boots, light deck armrest and pouches, wind laces, glare shields and crash pads, etc.).
2. Under immediate supervision researches, prepares, and signs off various documents for record keeping purposes as required by Duncan approved procedures, manufacturers' maintenance manuals, and FAA regulations (i.e. turnovers, removal sheets, flammability testing, W.O. Sheets, personal training log, and other work order related documents supporting the review squawks and expected hours). 3. Performs other related duties as assigned by management. - Licenses/Certificates: Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record; Respirator Fit qualified
- Attendance: Regularly scheduled attendance required
- Physical: Routinely lifts 50 lbs., occasionally 100 lbs.; reads small print; hears sounds associated with mechanical deficiencies; repetitive motion; works with moving parts and vibration; tolerates working in confined spaces and heights above four feet; tolerates products and materials associated with component maintenance; tolerates standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing and sitting
- Environmental: Tolerates working in extreme temperatures and noisy environments
Education and Experience
- High School or College student
- Minimum six months related experience preferred
