Under the general supervision of the Director of Culinary Medicine, the appointee will serve as a curriculum development specialist assigned to the Culinary Medicine Curriculum in Years 1 through 4. This position will work directly with the Director of Culinary Medicine, as well as clients and learners of the Culinary Medicine program. This position will serve as liaison to students assigned to those units/clerkships and activities, partners within SIU School of Medicine and clients external to SIU School of Medicine who are participating in Culinary Medicine programming.

Examples of Duties

Culinary Medicine Coordinator 95%
- Activities - Coordinate Culinary Curriculum across all four years of medical school, including year 1 and 2 curricular units, year 3 clerkship experiences (core rotations and selective rotations) and 4thyear electives and residency program activities.
- Assist Unit Directors, Doctoring team and Clinical Faculty in planning and scheduling educational activities related to Culinary Medicine.
- Communicate with assigned students regarding progress with Culinary Medicine requirements.
- Collect, collate and analyze Culinary Medicine evaluations and participation data to determine programmatic impact.
- Prepare end of year reports of students' progress in Culinary Medicine areas (Years 1-4).
- Organize and plan learning experiences as part of School of Medicine residency program and continuing education activities as requested under the direction of the Director of Culinary Medicine.
- Participate in the delivery of outwardly-facing courses and programs and collaborate with community stakeholders in the development of such programs.
- Assist with culinary medicine social media presence.
- Assist with administrative management of culinary medicine activities including activity facilitation with planning groups, collection of activity participant numbers, dietary preferences and restrictions, selection of recipes, physical set up for activity and activity evaluation.
Educational Responsibilities during culinary medicine activities
- Provide education for learners of all levels regarding knife skills and technique-driven culinary skills to create basic cooking competence and confidence.
- Provide education related to food safety.
- Engage learners by creating enthusiasm for flavor and nutritional attributes of ingredients and food.
- Engage in professional development to maintain evidence based acumen related to culinary science and nutrition
Responsibilities related to Culinary Medicine activity delivery
- Stock the teaching kitchen, including selection of vendors, supply lines, etc.
- Manage all resources related to the kitchen, including inventories, maintenance
- Procurement, management of non-perishable, perishable kitchen supplies and food.
- Recipe testing, modification and curation.
- Scheduling of kitchen time.
Research 5%
- Participate in studies of educational and curricular issues in conjunction with the Culinary Medicine team

Qualifications

- Sensitive to the needs of underrepresented minority populations.
- Culinary arts degree
- Experience in educational setting preferable
