Position Summary
The American Museum of Natural History is one of the world's preeminent scientific and cultural institutions, and has as its mission to discover, interpret and disseminate information about human cultures, the natural world and the universe through a wide-ranging program of scientific research, education and exhibition.

The Human Resources department is seeking an Assistant Director, Compensation and Analytics to plan, create and implement new and revised compensation programs, policies and procedures for employees, that support the Museum's mission and strategic goals. This position is also responsible for ensuring that company compensation programs are compliant and consistently administered. This role combines responsibility for human resources (HR) analytics and compensation program expertise and will support the development of HR metrics.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Analyzes results of compensation surveys and evaluates impact on the Museums salary structure and compensation program. Proactively analyzes market trends and salaries and communicates findings.
  • Conducts market analysis of jobs to determine competitive positioning of the Museum pay programs.
  • Participates in salary administration programs, including salary structure creation and maintenance and development of salary increase budgets.
  • Develops techniques for compiling, preparing and presenting human resources metrics and analytics. Presents information in reports and/or dashboards.
  • Develops, maintains and trains Museum staff on Museum compensation policies/guidelines.
  • Ensures adherence with federal, state and local compensation laws and regulations.
  • Conducts job evaluations and FLSA determinations. Ensure consistency and accuracy of determinations in position descriptions.
  • Maintains accuracy of compensation data in HRIS, partnering with HRIS Manager to identify and correct data quality issues.


The expected salary range for the Assistant Director, Compensation & Analytics is $125,000/annual - $140,000/annual. The AMNH offers an extensive benefits package designed to meet the needs of our dedicated and diverse community.
Pay will be determined based on several factors. The hiring range for the position at commencement is based on the type of work and the scope of responsibilities. The salary and placement offered is based on a number of individualized factors, including, but not limited to, skills, knowledge, training, education, credentials, areas of specialization and depth and scope of experience.
Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of six years of progressively responsible experience in employee compensation.
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations and compliance requirements related to employee compensation.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in business, human resources or related field.

  • SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) and certified compensation professional credentials.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret and communicate data.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Prior experience with an HRIS.

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for prolonged periods.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Must be able to move about the Museum campus.
