Schedule: Full-time, Mon-Fri, day shift, weekend rotation and call requirement

Reporting to the Social Work Manager for Inpatient Medicine/Surgery/Addiction/ED, the Social Work Supervisor for the Inpatient Addiction Recovery Program (ARP) is responsible for the daily operations of clinical Social Work activities including own patient assignments, patient/family care issues, and supervision of inpatient ARP Social Work, training, and mentoring. There is accountability for ensuring efficient and professional Social Work services for patients and families that are designed to promote and enhance their physical and psychosocial functioning with attention to the social and emotional impact of addiction, illness and disability. Monitors efficient utilization of healthcare resources, readmissions, and LOS issues. Other duties as assigned (Social Work quality improvement projects, participation on hospital wide committees as designated by Social Work Manager and hospital leadership i.e., Acute Care Plans, Readmission Studies, and Patient Safety).



  • Plan, develop, implement, and assist in managing a program of clinical Social Work activities for Addiction Recovery (ARP) Social Workers and Social Work interns.
  • Provides specialty clinical supervision for Addiction Recovery Program Social Work staff.
  • Screens applicants for employment in designated Social Work roles with Social Work Manager.
  • Provides oversight of case assignments, productivity standards and time management for Social Work on ARP or as designated by Social Work Manager.
  • Performs annual performance evaluations of potential Social Work interns and ARP Social Workers.
  • Works with management of clinical service units, when indicated, to participate in program planning, identifying clinical Social Work needs and resolving problems. Organize activities with other departments/units to ensure efficient coordination of services.
  • Functions as a member of the Social Work Department's Leadership Team to develop and implement clinical standards, policies/procedures, quality improvement activities for the department.
  • Fosters an environment of Social Work teamwork, flexibility, and collaboration among Social Workers, Case Management, Nursing and Medicine, and other team members.
  • Other duties as assigned (Social Work quality improvement projects, participation on hospital wide committees as designated by Social Work Manager and hospital leadership.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Social Work from an accredited program required
  • Current professional licensure in Massachusetts (LICSW) required
  • Five years' experience within Social Work including a minimum of 3 years in a supervisory/leadership role with accountability (training, onboarding, and supervising students and staff Social Workers).
  • Clinical expertise with substance use disorders, psychosocial assessments, individual and group therapy, and treatment planning options and referrals specific to SUD.
  • Sound clinical judgment and ability to set priorities with enhanced knowledge of substance use disorders, clinical interventions, and potential treatment options and referrals to programs specific to a patient's SUD needs and interests.
  • Ability to manage and provide leadership to an interdisciplinary group.
  • Knowledge base of psychosocial care, Case Management, Social Work, community resources and related regulations with ability to work with licensing compliance expectations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including negotiation skills both within the hospital setting and with community contacts.
  • Computer skills
