High School Youth Apprentice Position

The High School Youth Apprentice position will work with Production Associates gaining experience in the manufacturing environment.

Youth Apprentice students in this role will work to ensure plant production is safely met utilizing the most efficient means resulting in high quality products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • High School Youth Apprentice will be required to train on, operate and mechanically or systematically intervene with various types of low-tech packaging equipment.
  • The job includes preparing complete and accurate systems records and learning basic problem-solving principals.
  • Operators will be involved in making proper judgments to determine the appropriate actions to take whenever direct or indirect intervention is required on equipment settings and resolution of equipment malfunctions.
  • Operators will also learn to clean, inspect and lubricate; identify/fix abnormalities; and assist with AM (autonomous maintenance / PM (planned maintenance) work on equipment.
  • Safety is a primary responsibility for all team members; All employees will be required to follow all safety rules and guidelines and to participate in the Behavioral Based Safety process and risk predictions.
  • Team members will be responsible to assure quality products are being produced and will utilize various tools, testing and auditing systems to document that the product meets or exceeds the quality standards established in the point of use document.
  • Team members must be able to work independently as well as with a high level of interaction in both small and large group situations and will be required to participate constructively in team meetings, team consensus decision making and with the performance appraisal process.
  • Team members must demonstrate a willingness and ability to learn, teach others and be responsible for various aspects of their lines and equipment.
  • A strong work ethic and attention to detail is critical for the success of the individual and the team as a whole.

Required Skills / Experience / Competencies:

  • Sophomores and Juniors who are enrolled in Racine Unified School District High School on track for graduation

Preferred Skills / Experience / Competencies:

  • Basic math and measurement skills
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to work successfully in a team environment
  • Flexibility to work within teams and independently with minimal supervision to meet operational goals
  • Must be process-oriented and demonstrate critical thinking skills
  • Basic skills in the use and application of MS Office Suite Products (Outlook - Calendar and Email; Word, Excel)
  • Working knowledge of Safety, and Health and Environment principles and practices
  • Technical training (mechanical, industrial or production related) preferred.
  • Proven ability to undertake tasks of substantial variety or complexity
  • Mechanical aptitude

Job Requirements:

  • 1-2 Year Program June 2025 through June 2026
  • Summer: 40 hours per week
  • School Year: ~20 hours per week based on school schedule
  • Employees must be able to demonstrate ability to complete the essential functions of the job and tolerate the ergonomic stressors of the job. This includes lifting up to 40 pounds, standing, sitting, walking, bending, climbing stairs, kneeling, reaching overhead, pushing, and pulling for up to 8 to 12 hours daily.
