Position Announcement

The Psychology Department at Utah Tech University in St. George, Utah, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor of Psychology. The preferred candidate will possess a doctoral degree in Psychology (or related field), expertise in neurodiversity (broadly defined, but including autism spectrum disorder), and a BCBA certification with a BCBA-D designation. We envision this hire as extending our institutional commitment to neurodiversity and to work with other programs on campus in those efforts. Of particular interest are candidates who can teach undergraduate students to employ the strengths of ABA principles in a variety of environments with compassion and consideration for the autonomy of the individual.

The Psychology Department is a robust, growing program that includes an undergraduate program in Psychology and a graduate program in Marriage and Family Therapy. The successful candidate will direct a new undergraduate certificate BCaBA program. Responsibilities

This full-time, tenure-track position involves teaching responsibilities within the Psychology Department, including a new BCaBA certificate program. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to fulfill service and scholarship commensurate with the expectations of a faculty member at a teaching university like Utah Tech University.

The specific expectations for the successful candidate will be to:

  • Teach 24 credit hours of courses each academic year, consisting of courses within the undergraduate psychology program. Course assignments will be made by the Department Chair, taking into account departmental needs and the expertise of faculty. Course assignments will include:
    • Curriculum required for the BCaBA certificate (e.g., Applied Behavior Analysis, Behavior and Learning)
    • Core Psychology courses (e.g., APA Writing, Statistical Methods, Research Methods, Senior Capstone, History of Psychology)
    • Other Psychology courses that relate to the faculty member's expertise, including existing courses (e.g., Abnormal Psychology, Development in Infancy & Childhood) and new courses (e.g., relating to autism specifically and/or neurodiversity more broadly).
    • As needed, lower-division General Education courses (e.g., General Psychology, Human Development).
  • Participate in teaching and learning seminars and activities designed to promote and develop instructional knowledge and skills.
  • Attend department, division, and college faculty meetings, and work with other faculty and staff in improving the overall education experience of Psychology undergraduate students and MFT graduate students.
  • Coordinate the BCaBA certificate program, including supervision of student internship experiences, and helping students integrate evidence-based academic concepts with practical internship experience. Included in these responsibilities is ensuring that coursework requirements for BCaBA certification are met and completing the coursework attestation process for students interested in pursuing BCaBA certification. This will be considered a significant service responsibility.
  • Work as part of a team consisting of faculty and staff to improve the student experience for neurodiverse students on campus utilizing dedicated space in the new Classroom Building.
  • Participate in additional service activities, including department, college or university committees, if needed to fulfill the service requirements expected of a typical full-time tenure-track faculty member.
  • Develop and maintain a scholarly agenda that is appropriate to a regional, comprehensive, teaching university. Research and other scholarly work that involves UT students is highly valued.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Qualifications

    • Doctoral degree in Psychology or related field from an accredited college or university required. ABD may be considered if the degree is awarded prior to July 2025.
    • BCBA certification with BCBA-D designation; preference will be given to candidates who have ABA training with multiple client populations.
    • Evidence of potential for successful teaching at the undergraduate level.
    • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
    • Demonstration of the ability to administer ABA principles to diverse populations while prioritizing the autonomy and dignity of the client.
    • Demonstration of the ability to work with specialists in other academic disciplines and student services programs to develop both academic and community-based services for neurodiverse clients.
    • An eagerness to engage with colleagues, staff, administrators and community organizations to develop ways to improve the educational experience for our students.

    POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time (9-month) tenure-track faculty position. Faculty service begins August 2025, with pay and benefits starting July 1, 2025. Annual salary of $62,000 - $65,000 depending on qualifications and experience, with additional compensation available for optional summer/overload teaching.
