Job ID 20961A

SDL builds a lot of awesome space hardware for the DoD. Awesome hardware doesn't happen without Systems Engineers.

Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) is seeking an experienced and organized Senior Systems Engineer to lead a space hardware requirements definition and mission design for a defense related spacecraft. The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for the architecture, technical trades, risk tracking, requirements tracking and development, and the technical progress and execution of the program. This particular position will involve a lot of "teaching" a group of very smart government team members who are not engineers the basics of Systems Engineering and how to go about responsibly defining requirements. They will be in the very center of the project and must understand the customer's vision and work with the team to translate that vision into a technical solution, work with program management to ensure technical requirements and performance are achieved, support interactions with customers, and provide technical support to related proposal efforts. This role goes beyond traditional requirements management-it's dynamic, hands-on, and engaging. It offers consistently rewarding experiences and exciting opportunities to collaborate with a diverse range of professionals, from PhD scientists to senior leaders.

Required Qualifications:

  • At least a B.S. degree in a related technical field (e.g., Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering)
  • 7+ years of relevant Systems Engineering or advanced degree(s) in a related field
  • Familiarity with DoD requirements processes and subsystems design
  • Experience working with both scientists and engineers
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to present clearly and succinctly to customers
  • Technical mentorship experience
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with a current active security clearance
  • Must be able to travel 25%

It would be even better if you have:
  • Knowledge about the U.S. strategic weapons enterprise
  • Knowledge about hypersonic reentry vehicles
  • Experience with CAMEO System Modeler
  • Experience with space hardware development and testing
  • Understanding of risks and risk mitigations for DoD systems
  • Experience with Quality Assurance on DoD programs
  • Experience with implementing DoD Safety Requirements

At SDL, we support a variety of missions, including the Department of Defense's aim to protect our nation on the ground, in the air, and in space. Our sensors, satellites, software systems, and science and engineering play an essential role in some important missions you've heard of, and others that you haven't. Join our team in our seventh decade of delivering mission success.
