Job Summary

Under direct supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor performs maintenance mechanical skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, preventative maintenance on all facilities equipment, hydraulic troubleshooting, repair and the upkeep of the Facilities Maintenance shop tools and equipment. Reads and interprets equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service. Comply with OSHA Safety and Health rules.

  • Performs highly skilled work in several areas in the maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment, such as carpentry repairs, alterations and new installation of walls, ceiling, cabinet work, doors, temporary stairs, etc. Installs and maintains valves, sinks, wash bowls, etc. Performs these duties at all buildings and facilities throughout University Campus. Inspect and do minor roof repairs as required by the department.
  • Uses various power tools, such as table saw, radial saw, grinders, drills, sanders, electric hand saws, pressure cleaning machines and other equipment to complete work assigned. Assists with pressure cleaning the exterior of buildings at MMC. Operates motor vehicles to transport materials and equipment needed to perform the job tasks assigned to this position.
  • Performs other assigned general maintenance repair tasks, such as assisting in the replacement of ceiling tiles, light bulbs. Assists electrical, Preventative Maintenance, Plumbing, Paint, Grounds and HVAC building components, including masonry work such as concrete floors, blocks, patching of walls and related work.
  • Assists in planning and in the arrangements for special needs for special University events.
  • Performs essential duties during any emergencies, such as hurricanes, storms and/or any other University emergency closing. The employee is expected to be available to report to work as needed during University emergency closings with appropriate notification by department administrator.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of an approved apprenticeship program for mechanical trades or a high school diploma and three (3) years of appropriate experience.
  • Valid Florida Driver's - Class E
