Organizational Unit Overview
The Materials Management Department is part of the fiscal operations of East Carolina University under the supervision of the Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance. The Department of Materials Management oversees the operation of Purchasing, Central Stores and University Surplus. The Primary functions of the Management Department has sole responsibility for the procurement of all commodities, contractual agreements and consultant services for the University, and the Medical School. The administrative function of the department is to assure proper and legal methods of procurement are maintained and to service University departments by processing department requisitions in accordance with University, State and Federal guidelines.
Job Duties
Monitoring the performance of all positions and daily functions of Central Warehouse and Receiving and University Surplus. Making assignments to the staff and following up to ensure they are being competed in a satisfactory manner. Giving direction and guidance, establishing deadlines, and setting priorities, which includes the development of policies and procedures relating to the department and the direct supervision of subordinate staff personnel. Responsible for ensuring a safe and secure work environment and safety training of all employees.

This position is responsible for originating purchase orders for materials and supplies stocked within the Central Warehouse and Receiving, and purchasing non-stock items required on short notice in accordance with state and University policies and procedures.

Supervises the receiving and delivering of freight for the University to sites without loading docks. Also shipping items utilizing Fed Ex, UPS, and related delivery options.

Oversee all surplus property operations and assists other Central Stores staff with receiving and disposing of surplus property and equipment. This includes incoming and outgoing surplus property, physically staging surplus property for surplus sales, assisting and overseeing surplus sales events, and showing property to customers by appointment or other arrangements.

This position is ultimately responsible for all functions of Central Warehouse and Receiving and University Surplus, which are delegated to the staff accordingly.
Minimum Education/Experience
High school diploma or equivalency and two years of supervisory experience in the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
License or Certification required by statute or regulation
None
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Computer background and expertise in computerized inventory.
License or Certification required by the Department
Valid NC Driver's License.
