Organizational Unit Overview |
University Communications (UC) translates ECU' s message into strategic and compelling collateral through its units - News Services, Creative Services and University Marketing. UC provides strategic communication and marketing guidance and support to the university.
News Services is responsible for the university's main web site content and photography, news releases, storytelling, official social media accounts, storytelling, videos along with brand building, and East magazine. News Services manages media relations, internal and external strategic communication on behalf of the university and reports and disseminates information about events, activities, research, policies, individuals and alumni of the University.
Creative Services works with all university departments to conceptualize, design and produce written, digital and print projects to brand, communicate, and market messages to appropriate audiences, maintaining university branding standards. Creative Services serves as the authority for brand management and provides review of logo and trademark usage. Creative Services provides strategic marketing guidance and support to increase the knowledge, understanding, appreciation and support of the University and its work with broad and varied constituencies, from prospective and current students, thought leaders, prospective donors, and the public.
The university web site is managed by a dedicated team through Creative Services. Services include full site development, maintaining the university site and other subsites, consultation and web-related troubleshooting for departments. The university's mass email marketing system is controlled by the web team, creating, and assisting UC and other departments. A focus of the web team is identifying and establishing accessibility to the university web site and electronic communications.
University Marketing provides strategic advertising and marketing advice for the university with intentional focus on enrollment strategies. University Marketing is responsible for performing all external advertising buys for the university. The department also liaisons with university constituents on licensing and branding efforts. |
Job Duties |
Develop, create, execute, and manage graphic design projects assigned to the Department of Creative Services. Develop concept with the client, director, and senior editor by defining the function, audience, distribution method, budget, and other factors pertinent to the publication. Translate client's needs as established above, into design concept. Determine format (e.g., brochure, booklet, poster, web ad, web page, etc.). Specify typography, paper stock, dimensions, ink colors, folds, special effects, and other design criteria. Request photographer, if needed. Coordinate with client in selecting models, scheduling, and choosing locations. Art direct photo sessions. Select, digitally enhance, crop, position and size photographs. Create comprehensive design and work with editor until both are satisfied. Maintain a comprehensive visual identity program for the university by applying the uniform graphic standards in the creation of designs for
university publications and web pages so that a consistent look prevails. Designs digital graphics for web pages, advertisements, email marketing and other electronic media. The Visual Arts Specialist should also be proficient with Adobe Creative Suite software including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
Save and back up files according to departmental standards. Manage deadlines of assigned projects. Keep accurate records in time keeping system and database for traffic of job requests.

Minimum Education/Experience |
High school diploma or equivalency and two years of visual/graphic arts experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. |
