Job Description:

Perkins Coie is seeking a dynamic, creative, and enthusiastic leader to take on the role of the Washington, D.C. Office Business Director (OBD) to manage the day-to-day business operations and office management. The OBD, under the direction of the Office Managing Partner, will report to the Regional Business Director and will actively engage in strategic planning relative to the operations of the local office.

The position, based in the Washington, D.C. office, is a hybrid role that requires ability to be in office Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at minimum.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Champion initiatives that drive engagement and strengthen a culture of collaboration, respect, and commitment to client service excellence.
  • Ensure compliance with legal regulations, industry standards, and internal policies, while implementing risk management strategies and staying current on regulatory changes impacting office operations.
  • Collaborate with all Business Services departments such as Real Estate, Business Resilience, Finance, Human Resources, Marketing, Pro Bono, Diversity and Inclusion, Information Technology, Practice Management and Professional Standards with a goal of ensuring that the office runs efficiently with the highest level of client service and safety.
  • Responsible for space planning, hoteling program and facility management.
  • Responsible for creating a welcoming experience for new employees, ensuring smooth onboarding and integration into the firm.
  • Develop and oversee annual budgets, monitor financial performance, report on monthly expenses, and drive cost-saving initiatives to enhance profitability, including managing office accounting functions and expense approvals.
  • Supervise office business professionals and legal support personnel.

SKILLS NECESSARY

  • Proven leadership in office management, operations, or a related field, with expertise in problem-solving, planning, and decision-making.
  • Exceptional client service and proven ability to be responsive to office leadership and partner requests.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive and support culture and engagement initiatives that foster a collaborative, client-focused environment.
  • Comprehensive understanding of business administration and knowledge of state and local labor laws.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build relationships across departments.
  • Proficiency in finance and accounting processes, capable of analyzing and resolving complex issues.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and document management systems.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Qualified candidates must have a minimum of five years of supervisory or office management experience in a mid-sized or larger office and a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Those with experience in a law firm environment are strongly preferred.

This position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, 401(k) plan, medical, dental, and vision insurance, accrued paid time off plan starting at 20 days annually, personal medical and parental leave, up to 10 paid holidays, and family care benefits. This position may be filled in the following location(s). The compensation depends on qualifications and experience.

Washington, D.C., compensation range: $130,500 to $203,770 annually
