SHP) is seeking a Student Assistant (Research) to work in the Department of Rehabilitation and Movement Sciences.
We are seeking a Student Assistant (Research) to contribute to the development of innovative rehabilitation exergames for children with cerebral palsy (CP). The successful candidate will work with a multidisciplinary team to create exergames using Unity, a motion capture system, and a voice recognition package. These exergames will enable children to interact with video games using both their voice and hands, promoting engagement and physical activity.
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:
- Collaborate in the design and development of rehabilitation exergames using Unity, integrating motion capture and voice recognition technologies.
- Assist in conducting a feasibility study to evaluate the usability and effectiveness of the exergames with children with CP.
- Gather and analyze user feedback to iterate and improve the exergames.
- Work closely with the research team to ensure the exergames meet the specific needs of children with CP and adhere to best practices in rehabilitation and game design.
- Understands and adheres to Rutgers' compliance standards as they appear in RBHS's Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Must have a current undergraduate major in computer engineering and be enrolled in an SHP DPT program.

- Experience with Unity development.
- Strong interest in multidisciplinary approaches to rehabilitation and game design.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a research-focused environment.

Physical Demands and Work Environment |
- The role is mainly sedentary; the candidate should have adequate visual and fine motor skills to review electronic charts and record data on a computer or tablet; the candidate should have adequate listening and note-taking skills and time management skills to meet the demands of the position. The candidate must have the ability to independently travel to and from the work sites.
- Working with multiple students in a busy environment and multi-tasking while being empathetic yet helping students to meet the standards for coursework.
