Role Summary:

As a vital member of our team, you will collaborate closely with regional teams to deliver on our voluntary and mandatory reporting obligations. Your responsibilities will include the development and implementation of processes that control for the accuracy of quantitative and qualitative evidence. You will support increased assurance of our cocoa metrics and the continual improvement of the quality of our disclosures. You will spearhead digital transformation in our collection and handling of cocoa sustainability data, delivering increased analytical capabilities and supporting data-driven decision-making. Additionally, you will play a crucial role in enhancing both physical and documentary traceability within our cocoa supply chain in alignment with evolving regulatory mandates and enterprise priorities.

Responsibilities:

Digital transformation:



  • Develop and document processes for data collection, sharing, processing, analytics, and visualizations, where this includes the management of PI/PII and other highly sensitive data.
  • Recommend opportunities to increase the robustness of data management practices while accounting for different contexts across cocoa growing regions (e.g., socio-cultural, economic, and agronomic differences).
  • Lead relationships with data suppliers, drive data accuracy and completeness, and work with relevant procurement colleagues to minimize disruptions to reporting processes.
  • Perform root cause analysis for reporting issues and develop and/or monitor improvement plans.
  • Deliver increased analytical capabilities that allow us to better leverage existing data sources (approx. five million data points per annum and increasing year-on-year).
  • Digitize secondary data sources (e.g., extracting information that is currently in pdf files).
  • Identify opportunities for standardization, automation, and leverage these to increase our speed to action.
  • Review emerging and evolving methodologies for environmental analytics, identify implications to the business and make recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Support the development of new tools to increase documentary and physical traceability in line with enterprise commitments and regulatory expectations.
  • Support the development and execution of a strategic roadmap for cocoa data that allows us to meet compliance requirements, measure, and attribute value from sustainability efforts, and identify strategic opportunities.
  • Closely collaborate with the cocoa data analyst to increase the analytical value of the data collected in the implementation of Cocoa for Good. Leverage monitoring, evaluation and assurance data from suppliers and implementing partners to generate insights and actionable recommendations. Manage ongoing efforts to harmonize data collection and platforms across implementing partners.
  • Assist colleagues in defining new report requirements, and develop and implement scorecards, dashboards and other visualizations that support data-driven decision making.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in enterprise-wide initiatives (e.g., ESG-IS roadmap).


Reporting and disclosures:



  • Establish and manage a proactive approach to narrative reporting across the cocoa team.
  • Deliver agile project management of the cocoa team's qualitative and quantitative contributions to mandatory and voluntary disclosures such as Hershey's ESG Reports, WCF reporting, ICI reporting, and NGO-led initiatives.
  • Collaborate closely with regional teams to foster accountability among implementing partners, streamlining reporting procedures and addressing harmonized data flows.
  • Support accurate and timely reporting of ESG metrics, including GIS-related data and the data needed for GHG accounting.
  • Support the auditability of ESG metrics, maintaining the disclosure control procedures.
  • Increase assurance of our cocoa sustainability data and continually improve the quality of our disclosures.
  • Establish controls (e.g., evidence thresholds, informed consent) for the quality of Hershey-issued materials such as case studies, and approval processes for references to Hershey (including use of Cocoa For Good logo) in materials produced by implementing partners.
  • Collaborate with cocoa team members and external partners to prepare internal briefing materials that convey strategic insights and learnings to executive audiences.


Cocoa Strategy Alignment and Continuous Improvement:



  • Identify opportunities for emerging technologies and digital tools to support the execution of the long-term cocoa strategic vision, undertaking research and analysis on related topics and themes as needed.
  • Build capacity in the cocoa team to embed data-driven decision-making in our daily operations, ensuring that new and existing tools are adopted and leveraged by team members.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams.
  • Represent Hershey in external working groups.


Qualifications:

* Expertise in applied data science

* Knowledge of and experience working with relational and non-relational databases, e.g., Snowflake, Databricks, Azure Data solutions, etc.

* Attention to detail and high analytical skills

* Strategic thinking capabilities

* Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders from cocoa producing regions globally

* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders

* Demonstrated ability to learn new technical areas of practice and to teach or train others

* Ability and willingness to travel internationally to rural cocoa farming areas

* Fluency in English; proficiency in French and Spanish is preferred

Experience & Education:



  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, information systems, information technology, engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years' experience with data analytics and visualization, including data mining, modelling, forecasting (e.g., Alteryx, Power BI, Tableau)
  • 10+ years' experience developing and maintaining a reporting ecosystem, ensuring service level agreements and data quality
  • 10+ years' experience working with business owners to maintain and optimize key performance indicators within data and analytical solutions
  • Experience in high-performing agile delivery methodologies
  • Experience in mapping and improving business processes
  • Experience in supply chains and traceability solutions for business is desirable
  • Experience in cocoa supply chains, or in human rights or environmental issues is desirable
