The Literacy Instructor II is responsible for providing comprehensive academic enrichment services, GED/HiSET prep, test-taking strategies, tutoring, advisement, CASAS or other academic testing, college entrance test preparation and registration, and teaching transitional literacy courses for program participants. The candidate assists students with making decisions affecting their educational progress and goals; assists with the supervision of tutors and classroom aides and works directly with advanced-level participants; be responsible for collecting, documenting, and evaluating attendance and assessment data for programmatic purposes. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to teach, motivate, and relate positively to adult learners; learn and utilize educational tools, websites, resources, and technologies effectively; enter data electronically in a timely manner, and be able to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries as deemed appropriate when working with students. This is a grant-funded position reporting to the Associate Director of Adult Education.

Required Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Education or related field and two years of experience working with academically and socially challenged adult populations is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills & Abilities:



  • Familiarity with enrichment instruction and academic resources.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach, motivate and relate to adult learners.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to interact with a diverse population of staff and students.
  • Demonstrated organizational, problem solving, and management skills for classrooms and self-supervision.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint or comparable software.
  • Ability to travel to off-site locations that may not be accessible via public transportation.


Preferred:

** Experience with GED Instruction, Testing, Materials and Resources.

* Familiar with CASAS assessment tools and reports.

This position is assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote), the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.
