Salary range:
The salary range for this position is $74,100-$195,000. Application Window Open date: November 1, 2024 Next review date: Tuesday, Dec 3, 2024 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Final date: Saturday, Nov 1, 2025 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Position description The Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of California, Irvine -School of Medicine and Dr. Charles Limoli, Professor and Vice Chair of the Radiation Oncology Department invites applications for the position of Project Scientist for all ranks in the Project Scientist series (Assistant, Associate, and/or Full Project Scientist levels). The Project Scientist's first appointment shall be for a minimum of one-year term, provided that there is work, programmatic need, and appropriate funding. This position will be available for 2-3 years funded by National Institutes of Health (NIH), if incumbent is reappointed. The successful candidate will be responsible for investigating the efficacy of radiation- and/or chemotherapy-induced tumor cell kill and normal tissue sparing in the CNS and other peripheral organ sites. Our laboratory employs cutting-edge cancer therapy paradigms with a focus on ultra-high dose rate "FLASH" radiotherapy, gene silencing, transgenic, stem cell-based and pharmacological approaches to study neurobiological mechanisms and regenerative strategies to ameliorate a wide range of normal tissue toxicities, neuroinflammation and cognitive impairments. Applicants must possess a Ph.D. with 3-4 years of post-doctoral research experience in neuroscience, cancer biology, molecular biology, and/or biochemistry, by the time of appointment. The successful candidate will also possess an excellent track record and a high level of motivation to supervise, train, and conduct pre-clinical neuro-oncology experiments and work well with an institutional and multi-national team of This role reports directly to the Vice Chair of Radiation Oncology. The Department features a four-year Radiation Oncology residency training program and a two-year Medical Physics residency. The Department has an active Radiation Biology Division that currently ranks among the top programs in the nation concerning NIH funding. The Department participates in NRG/RTOG and SWOG and encourages investigator-initiated clinical and translational trials. The Division has undergone a transformative change with current and future site expansion in recent years.
