Position Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Business Development Manager - Life Sciences.

Manages activities related to the disclosure and protection of new inventions and the transfer of technology from the Health System and the University to the market place This includes assessing the commercial potential of new invention disclosures from faculty identifying potential commercial partners marketing technologies to companies negotiating research and license agreements and promoting the creation of start up companies based on NYU technologies

Job Responsibilities:

    • Engage with Researchers: nbsp;Meet with researchers to understand their work inform them about intellectual property considerations and encourage invention disclosures
    • Communication and Relationships: nbsp;Demonstrate excellent cooperation collaboration and communication with all NYULH employees Communicate directly with Principal Investigators PIs and other scientists and coordinate the delivery of results to external collaborators Ensure accurate clear and confidential communication to respond appropriately address inquiries and relay necessary information effectively
    • Adherence to Policies: nbsp;Follow all Health System policies and behavioral standards
    • Investor Outreach: nbsp;Conduct outreach to venture capital firms investor groups and entrepreneurs maintaining awareness of investment trends Provide guidance to interns developing business plans for NYU technologies
    • Monitoring and Compliance: nbsp;Monitor signed agreements with companies to stay informed of changes in company focus personnel or resources and the status of ongoing research product development and protection of follow on inventions Maintain long term relationships ensure compliance with agreements and identify when amendments are necessary
    • Negotiation of Agreements: nbsp;Negotiate license and research agreements with companies in consultation with the inventor/PI Senior Director of Life Sciences Technology Transfer and Executive Director Responsibilities include negotiating key terms drafting agreements from approved templates and finalizing the agreements Maintain long term relationships with industry partners seek consensus with faculty on licensing strategies and use clear language to avoid misunderstandings Aim for mutually beneficial terms that adhere to University policies while ensuring attractive returns for both parties
    • Research and Development Interests: nbsp;Research and assess companies active research and development interests Schedule meetings with company representatives and attend conferences to network with personnel responsible for technology licensing and business development
    • Identify Commercial Partners: nbsp;Identify potential commercial partners for licensing NYU inventions or funding research Reach out to key decision makers within these entities to market NYU inventions and research Negotiate confidentiality agreements and collaborate with faculty on presentations licensing strategies and decisions between exclusive or non exclusive licenses
    • Marketing and Summaries: nbsp;Prepare non confidential marketing summaries of inventions highlighting the inventors backgrounds technology descriptions and commercial applications for industry distribution and website posting
    • Patent Assistance: nbsp;Assist the Director of Intellectual Property and outside counsel in preparing and prosecuting patent applications to protect the commercially significant aspects of inventions
    • Evaluate Inventions: nbsp;Evaluate invention disclosures from faculty for commercial potential in collaboration with the Director of Intellectual Property outside counsel and inventors

Minimum Qualifications:

To qualify you must have a

  • Bachelor s degree in science or engineering
  • Minimum three years of experience in business development developing and marketing of new technologies and negotiating research and license agreements or related activities
  • Excellent administrative negotiating interpersonal and communication skills necessary
  • Ability to work effectively with senior management academic scientists and executives from industry and to achieve consensus and promote good long term relationships

Preferred Qualifications:

IV Preferred Qualifications: PhD and/or MBA experience with patenting licensing and commercialization

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $97,589.95 - $110,568.28 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
