General Purpose of Job: To promote Sparrow Orthopedics Sports Medicine to the greater 12 County Market, its school systems, athletic directors, coaches, parents, student's athletes and community members. Essential Duties: This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Associates may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.
- Work in a collaborative manner with Orthopedic Surgeons, Orthopedic Administration Physical Therapist, Physician's Assistant and Outpatient Rehabilitation Services to develop, market and implement Sparrow Orthopedics Sports Medicine programs and summer camps within the Sparrow 12 count market including (but not limited to): ACL (Jump Training) Injury Prevention Program, Golf Fitness, Runner's Clinic, Shoulder Stability Program for Throwers, Speed and Agility, Sport Specific Injury Prevention programs, Strength and Power Training Programs, Swimming Injury Prevention Program and Sport Conditioning and Athletic Performance Enhancement Programs.
- Staff contracted high school's athletic training room during all regularly scheduled athletic practices and sessions, providing full-time coverage during the start of the fall sports season including conditioning and "two-a-day" practices.
- Provide on-site staffing of all regularly scheduled "home" and "away" sporting events for contracted high school athletic programs as requested in advance by the athletic director.
- Conduct Saturday sports injury triage and treatment clinic(s) with Orthopedic PA for athletic team members.
- Maintain direct access with coaches and student athletes to Orthopedic Surgeons and/or Orthopedic PA for consultation during training and practice sessions.
- Assist high school Athletic Director with recommendations for supplies and equipment needs.
- Supervise and mentor Athletic Department's student trainer program.
- Work in a collaborative manner with Orthopedic Surgeons, Orthopedic Administration Physical Therapist, Physician's Assistant and Outpatient Rehabilitation Services to develop, market, and implement educational programs covering children and adolescents recreational-related issues including but not limited to: ACL sprain/tear, Ankle sprain, Bursitis, Concussions, Dislocations, Asthma, Foot sprains/strains, Low back strains, Meniscal injuries, Muscle strains, Tendonitis, Menstrual changes, female athlete triad, Little league elbow/shoulder, Tennis/golf elbow, Proper nutrition, Hydration, Growth plate injuries, and fractures.
Job Requirements
General Requirements |
* Certification in Athletic Training from the National Athletic Trainers Association. * Licensed Athletic Trainer in the State of Michigan. |
Work Experience |
* Preferred- Experience in Athletic Training setting. |
Education |
* Graduate of a program accredited by Secretary of the Department of Education and/or Council on Post-Secondary Accreditation recognized agency with a BS degree in Athletic Training or Physical Education/Health. |
Specialized Knowledge and Skills |
* Effective written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills. * Ability to perform mutliple tasks and adapt to changing work situations. * Able to demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessry to provide care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety and related criteria, appropriate to the athletes services in his /her assigned service area as rlated to the principle duties and responsiblities of the position. The skills and knowledge needed to proved such are may be gained through education, training and experience. |
