Manufacturing Technician - Betty Crocker - Avon Mill

As a part of our manufacturing group, you will be responsible for the mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting and operation of processing and packaging lines and equipment.

Shift hours:

  • 8-hour shifts (Monday through Friday)
    • 2nd shift: 3 pm to 11 pm
    • 3rd shift: 11 pm to 7 am
    • This position is a Monday through Friday schedule with an occasional Saturday shift
    • Currently hiring for 2nd and/or 3rd Shift (shift dependent upon business need)
    • Training will be on 1st shift (7 am to 3 pm) for up to 6 weeks and then transfer to assigned shift
  • Ability and willingness to work overtime, any shift, including days, nights, an occasional Saturday and/or Sunday, including 4 hours prior to or over scheduled shift, when business need dictates
  • Plant operation is 24 hours a day, 7 days a week

Pay:

  • $24.95 per hour
  • Shift differential
    • Additional $.34 per hour for hours worked on 2nd shift
    • Additional $.41 per hour for hours worked on 3rd shift
  • Overtime pay
    • Time worked after 8 hours of work is paid at 1.5 times regular rate of pay
    • Time worked on Saturday is paid at 1.5 times regular rate of pay
    • Time worked on Sunday is paid at 2 times (double pay) regular rate of pay

About our Location:

At our Avon Mill, we produce 50 lb. bags of flour that are distributed to restaurants, cruise ships, hotels, schools, as well as Betty Crocker dry mix pouches. Our plant is unique in that we have two product platforms: flour and dry mixes. The flour we produce is integrated into our Betty Crocker mixes. We are a small plant with a great culture where you will get to know the people you work with. Fun facts about Avon are that we produce an average of 1.1 millions pounds of flour a day and about 100 million Betty Crocker pouches a year. When making our chocolate chip cookie mix, around 2000 lbs of chocolate is added per hour to the packaging line!

Flour (25 and 50 lb bags) and Betty Crocker dry mix pouches (cookies, brownies, muffins, pizza crust, biscuits).

    • Troubleshoot problems with machinery
    • Perform mechanical maintenance during bottlenecks or downtime
    • Calibrate processing and packaging systems daily to meet required specifications
    • Participate in startup, changeover, and shut down of operating equipment
    • Participate in Continuous Improvement initiatives to increase platform performance
    • Assist in training new employees

What you have to offer:

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or GED
  • Mechanical and/or technical experience in a manufacturing or related industry
  • Basic computer skills/computer literacy
  • Experience in a manufacturing/production environment preferred

Physical requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Must be able to perform physical tasks for extended periods of time including standing, walking, climbing, bending, pushing, pulling and twisting over surfaces
  • Ability to climb and/or work at heights while utilizing stairs, ladders, personnel lifts, or platforms
  • Ability to wear protective clothing and equipment such as safety shoes, face masks, safety glasses, hearing protection, a hard hat, a hair/beard net and gloves when required
  • Willing and able to adhere to all grooming requirements necessary for a food manufacturing environment
  • Ability to work in hot, cold, noisy, dusty, wet environmental working conditions
  • Willing to work around industrial high-speed moving machinery
  • Ability to work with allergens that might be present in a food environment
