Cereal Packing Mechanic

Shift hours:

  • 8-hour night shift
  • 3rd shift, 10:30pm - 6:30am
  • Ability and willingness to work any shift - days, afternoons, nights, as well as most weekends, holidays, and overtime
  • Plant operation is 24 hours a day, 7 days per week

Pay:

  • $35.27 per hour
    • Additional $.34 per hour for hours worked on 2nd shift
    • Additional $.41 per hour for hours worked on 3rd shift
  • Overtime Pay
    • Time worked after 8 hours of work is paid at 1.5 times regular rate of pay
    • Time worked on Saturday is paid at 1.5 times regular rate of pay
    • Time worked on Sunday is paid at 2 times (double pay) regular rate of pay

About our Location:

The Buffalo, NY plant is located on the waterfront, providing convenient access to Canada and major cities like Toronto and New York City. It offers employees opportunities to progress in their careers through seniority-based bidding and

apprenticeship programs. The plant organizes events such as a summer barbecue, a family picnic at a local amusement park during downtime, and a holiday dinner for all three shifts served by the leadership team. There's a strong

sense of community and pride among employees, with many having family ties to the company. Interesting facts include the plant's former name, Cheeri-Oats, the transportation of grain by boat, and a fire thatoccurred a day before its opening in 1940.

What your day will look like:

  • Working with HIGH-LEVEL tradespeople on EXPERIENCED teams that are looking to pass down their knowledge to workers WILLING TO LEARN and get paid doing it
  • CHALLENGING yourself to get the JOB DONE RIGHT
    • Installing, maintaining, repairing, and replacing industrial packaging machinery, work tools and equipment
    • Identifying and troubleshooting mechanical issues
    • Use your knowledge and skills to lead repairs and modifications to machinery and equipment
    • Performing both uptime and downtime preventative maintenance
    • Participate in Continuous Improvement initiatives to increase platform performance
    • Assist in training new employees

What you have to offer:

  • Minimum of a high school education or GED
  • 5 years of industrial maintenance experience or equivalent in a related field
  • Ability to read machine prints, troubleshoot, and work on mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
  • Ability to perform welding and fabrication tasks is a plus
  • Experience in a manufacturing/production environment preferred
  • Previous high speed packaging equipment maintenance and/or operation preferred
  • Controls and/or electrical experience is a plus
  • Basic computer skills

Physical requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Must be able to perform physical tasks for extended periods of time including standing, walking, climbing, bending, pushing, pulling, and twisting over surfaces
  • Ability to climb and/or work at heights while utilizing stairs, ladders, personnel lifts, or platforms
  • Ability to wear protective clothing and equipment such as safety shoes, face masks, safety glasses, hearing protection, a hard hat, a hair/beard net, and gloves when required
  • Willing and able to adhere to all grooming requirements necessary for a food manufacturing environment
  • Ability to work in hot, cold, noisy, dusty environmental working conditions
  • Willing to work around industrial high-speed moving machinery
  • Ability to work with allergens that might be present in a food environment
  • Need to be able to work in a tobacco free environment
