Position Summary:


The Sterile Processing Distribution (SPD) - Coordinator effectively supervises department operations and staff resources to meet patient care needs. Responsibilities include leading the staff to meet customer satisfaction, employee engagement, FTE and financial budgets, quality of work, compliance and performance goals. Participates in the review and implementation of department policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, best practice and recommended professional standards. Instructs and teaches staff and others as deemed on sterilization practices. Encourages and supports staff growth and development. Meets daily with Perioperative leadership team to review future case needs to enable effective surgical case planning of instruments and supplies. The coordinator will primarily provide operational support and supervision within the department. This includes but is not limited to accountability for assisting leading staff to meet customer satisfaction, compliance and performance goals, and mitigating staff issues. The SPD Shift Coordinator will perform SPD Technician position responsibilities in addition.


Qualifications:


CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) within 1 year or Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) within 1 year or Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) within 1 year.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Three (3) years Sterile Processing or Three (3) years Healthcare. requireduires three years of experience in sterile processing, healthcare, production, or supply chain with proven leadership experience.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Leadership skills and abilities. Effective oral and written communication skills. Strong customer service skills and experience. Knowledge of professional standards and practices and regulatory standards. Knowledge of sterile processing and surgical instrumentation and product supplies. Good personal computing skills, knowledge and the ability to use Microsoft 'Office' (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, etc.) software and the Internet. Good organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently, managing multiple and shifting priorities.


Essential Functions:

  • Recommends personnel actions for hires, promotions, transfers, discharges, performance evaluations, and disciplinary measures. Ensures staff members are adequately trained and are competent to perform all required job tasks.
  • Assists in developing the departmental capital budget. Assists in meeting operating budgets for staff, instruments, and supplies.
  • Endorses and performs all required tasks associated with the Carle Experience such as, but not limited to, rounding, development or scouting and stoplight reports.
  • Audits and monitors sterilization. Performs routine and ad hoc audits of processing and distribution functions. Identifies and researches problems and takes corrective action as required.
  • Verifes the processing and sterilization processes on a daily basis.
  • Works closely with SPD Instrument and Inventory Specialists and Materials Management staff to maintain proper levels of sterile instrument trays and equipment as well as patient care supplies.
  • Ensures smooth operation of all departmental functions according to approved policies and in accordance with all state and federal law, standards of professional practice, and applicable accreditation standards.
  • Assists in scheduling and payroll tasks.
  • SPD coordinator will function as the primary liaison between the SPD manager/supervisor and SPD staff.
  • Assists daily within the department to provide operational support.
  • Provides input in hiring decisions and disciplinary processes.
  • Train new staff and participates in their development.
  • Delegate tasks to ensure needs and priority list are completed in a timely manner to ensure patient care can safely be provided.
