Infrastructure

Job Description

Basic Function and Responsibilities:

Install, inspect, maintain in building telecommunication, and network infrastructure facilities to include copper, fiber optics, network closets and hardware. Provides technical expertise on communications and networking equipment placement, configurations, operations, and maintenance. Team-oriented and known for their attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to take initiative.

Essential Functions:

  • Terminate, test and repair network infrastructure, including cabling, equipment, and peripherals for switched and non-switched services (voice, data, and wireless) for all campus properties
  • Process orders via ticketing system for installation, troubleshooting, repair, replacement of telecommunication and networking equipment. Research and resolve issues working closely with Network Engineering team
  • Use desktop software, including internally developed software, Microsoft 365, ticketing system, email, and system interface software
  • Perform mechanical and fusion splicing operations on campus fiber optic facilities
  • Provide customer service to the campus community, working closely with students, staff, and faculty
  • Relocation of IT equipment for University employees, including computers and other related technology

Supervision Received:

  • Supervision is received by Telecom Infrastructure Engineer
  • Performs tasks and duties under general supervision, using established procedures and innovation
  • Chooses from limited alternatives to resolve problems
  • Occasionally independent judgement is required to complete work assignments
  • Reports unusual issues to supervisor

Supervision Exercised:

  • Provides training and guidance on telecommunication and networking duties to student technician employees
Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 2 years of IT/telecommunications experience
  • General knowledge of computer functions and operating software
  • Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional communication and customer service skills
Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of a post-secondary education program in telecommunications, information technology, computer science, or related field
  • Prior experience with telecom protocols, VoIP, SIP, SCCP
  • Preferred experience with basic networking protocols DNS, DHCP, VPN, WAN/LAN TCP/IP
  • Familiarity with installation network routers, switches, UPS's, PDU's, wireless access points
  • Data Center implementation experience
Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $15.00-$26.34 hourly.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
