The Project Scientist or Geologist for HTRW executes and manages projects within the scope, budget, schedule, and the quality exceptions established. They lead the planning and development of all tasks for assigned projects. They also support management of staff in completing engineering design, technical research, construction plans, specifications, report preparation and quality assurance.

Location: Greater Phoenix Metro Area

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree in geology or natural sciences, or closely related field with a minimum 6-8 years related experience.
  • Professional licensure preferred (i.e., P.E., P.G., etc.).
  • Provides supervision for technical tasks and assignments for engineers, geologist, scientist, technicians, and administrative staff.
  • Documented experience with Federal (CERCLA, RCRA, TSCA) of State of AZ environmental programs.
  • Understanding of the CERCLA and RCRA process and requirements for investigation, remediation, or compliance sites.
  • Understanding of AZ Dept of Env Quality (ADEQ).
  • Ability to lead and direct a field team for an environmental investigation.
  • Demonstrates strong background and successful implementation of projects for: standard RI/FS studies, engineering, evaluations/cost analyses, data visualization and conceptual site model development, and remedial technology selection, evaluation, and pilot testing.
  • Ability to lead development of work plans, sampling and analysis plans, quality assurance project plans, and various environmental reporting.
  • Able to analyze, interpret and present data.
  • Working knowledge of the procedures necessary to execute a sound and efficient project, with the goal of developing good project management techniques.
  • Able to meet time sensitive deadlines and carry out multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Experience with tracking budgets assigned from the Project Manager.
  • Maintains a valid driver's license and can travel.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills to prepare and review reports, proposals, and cost estimates.
  • Able to work effectively in group setting and direct staff on investigative tasks.
  • Experience managing subcontractors for site work and analytical laboratories.

Preferred Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience with the CERCLA and RCRA.
  • Experience leading the development/writing of Work Plans, and other documents necessary for the project.
  • Site investigation and remediation experience.

Expected Outcomes:

  • Management of CERCLA projects including remedial investigations, feasibility studies, proposed plans, record of decisions, remedial designs, remedial actions, operations and maintenance, and long-term monitoring or RCRA equivalent phases of environmental restoration projects.
  • Collaborates with GIS and CAD technicians, field technicians, designers, and other team personnel to complete projects efficiently and accurately.
  • Assists the Project Manager in estimating and tracking project costs, staffing projects, and leading the project team.
  • Train and mentor less experienced staff.
  • Provide direct authorship of CERCLA documents like Site Inspections, Remedial Investigations, Feasibility Studies, Proposed Plans, and Decision Documents.
  • Prepare and issue contractor-supplier scopes of work and obtain quotes, review contractor submittals, and support field teams.
  • Leads proposal preparation efforts and development of project costs.
  • Participates in professional societies and other similar organizations.
  • Interacts with clients regarding project specific tasks.
  • Conduct field work including management of internal staff and oversight of contractors as required.
  • Travel estimate of 25%.

Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors.

Salary Range: $62,700 - $83,700 - $104,600
