Summary:

The Electrical Technician, maintains, troubleshoots, modifies, repairs and monitors a vast variety of electrical systems in low and medium voltage applications. Applications include but are not limited to medium and low voltage motor starters, variable frequency drives, motors, and electrical distribution equipment. The applicant must apply high-level knowledge of electronic and motor control principles to effectively maintain and insure operational health of company electrical assets.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Electrical Technician maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, modifies and monitors medium and low voltage electrical equipment to effectively insure the operational health of the company electrical systems.

Other responsibilities include but are not limited to:

* Participate in installing, troubleshooting and repairing electrical components safely.

* Troubleshoot complex problems with control systems and motor controls in both low voltage and medium voltage drive trains systems.

* Troubleshoot Distributive Control Systems (DCS) and/or PLC logic/controls to correct operating issues and also to implement better monitoring or operating practices.

* Understand electrical drawings and provide recommendations on improvements or corrections.

* Update electrical drawings

* Install, troubleshoot and maintain end devices, alarms, shutdown systems, process controls, substation equipment, and any other associated electrical devices

* Perform preventative and general maintenance on electrical equipment including low and medium voltage motor starters, motors, variable frequency drives, UPS systems, battery systems, motor operated valves, grounding systems, cathodic protection systems and unit lighting systems.

* Install monitoring systems on electrical equipment to find complex issues with equipment.

* Perform equipment acceptance and check out procedures

* Review project documentation and provide feedback and recommendations.

* Implement new technologies in the industry to improve the reliability of equipment.

* Provide shutdown and startup support for various operating units.

Required Education:


  • High school diploma or GED


Required experience is commensurate with the selected job level:


  • Level C requires a minimum of 0 - 2 years of relevant industry experience or equivalent work experience
  • Level B requires a minimum of 2 - 4 years of relevant industry experience or equivalent work experience
  • Level A requires a minimum of 4+ years of relevant industry experience or equivalent work experience


Required Qualifications:


  • A minimum of 4 yrs experience working on low and medium voltage electrical equipment and/or related applications.
  • Throughout knowledge of motor control applications and has familiarity with AC voltages of 480Vac though 138KV three phase and 120vac though 240V controls circuits.
  • The ability to understand, read and present drawings including but not limited to motor starter schematic, single and three line electrical drawings.
  • Moderate knowledge of Variable frequency drives including but not limited to: TMEIC, Siemens, ABB, Toshiba and Square D drives.
  • The ability to read and understand written safety procedures, work with procedures, P&IDs, work permits and manufacture technical manuals.
  • Advanced knowledge of different types of electrical testing, testing equipment and electrical protection elements.
  • Understanding and knowledge of electrical Code and industry safety standards.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations
  • Basic computer skills
  • Moderate knowledge of AC and DC UPS systems and related equipment
  • Strong knowledge of electrical motor operation, troubleshooting and testing.
  • The ability to assume responsibility, prioritize jobs and perform jobs safely under potential stress and hazardous conditions.
  • Ability to demonstrate dependability and commitment to the role, team and company.
  • The ability to take call-outs and work overtme iis required.
  • The ability to travel domestically up to 10% of the time is required.


Preferred Qualifications:




    • Associate degree in Electrical Technology
    • Related software and system certifications
    • Previous Electrical experience
    • Previous experience on electrical protection relays such as GE Multilin, Schweitzer and others.
    • Previous experience with motor testing
    • Previous substation experience.
    • Previous factory training certifications on the following


      • Variable frequency drives
      • Motor testing
      • Protection relay testing
      • UPS training
      • Electrical equipment preventive care training
      • Electrical Journeyman license

  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions that are subject to change due to weather or working conditions.
  • Ability to identify issues and make adequate recommendations to correct issues.
  • Climbs and works at various heights and may work in a standing, sitting, lying down, crouched or kneeling position.
  • May work in confined spaces (i.e., tanks, between compressors, vessels).
  • Must be able to regularly bend, stoop, move from ground level to higher levels, raise/lift from ground level and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must have ability to get in and out of vehicles regularly and ride over rough roads.
  • Must wear special safety equipment while working and must be able to lift and put on emergency breathing apparatus and/or protective equipment.
