Job Description

We are seeking a skilled sUAS Airspace Analystwith expertise in airspace integration, regulatory compliance, and unmanned aerial systems (UAS) operations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient integration of small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS) into controlled and uncontrolled airspace. This role involves collaboration with various teams to ensure that sUAS operations meet all Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, Department of Defense (DoD) guidelines, and other relevant airspace safety standards.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Airspace Integration: Develop and implement strategies for the integration of sUAS into national and local airspace, including controlled, uncontrolled, and restricted airspaces.



  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all sUAS operations comply with FAA regulations, DoD requirements, and other applicable policies.



  • Flight Operations Support: Work with flight operations teams to conduct risk assessments, flight safety reviews, and mission planning, ensuring airspace deconfliction and adherence to aviation standards.



  • Communication and Coordination: Collaborate with Air Traffic Control (ATC) and relevant agencies to facilitate safe sUAS operations within designated airspace areas, including supporting waivers and approvals for UAS flights.



  • Airspace Risk Mitigation: Develop and evaluate risk mitigation strategies for sUAS operations in diverse airspace environments, focusing on traffic separation, obstacle avoidance, and collision prevention.



  • System Testing and Validation: Conduct airspace compatibility assessments, flight test planning, and validation testing for sUAS platforms and ground control systems.



  • Technology Integration: Support the integration of sUAS with advanced airspace management technologies, including UTM (Unmanned Traffic Management) systems, remote ID systems, and detect-and-avoid technologies.



  • Documentation and Reporting: Prepare and maintain accurate records of airspace assessments, compliance activities, and operational documentation for regulatory submission and internal review.



Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Aeronautical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Aviation, or a related field. Advanced degrees are a plus.
  • Minimum 12years of experience in airspace engineering, aviation operations, or related fields.
  • In-depth knowledge of FAA Part 107, UAS operations, and national airspace regulations.
  • Familiarity with DoD and military airspace use policies and regulations is preferred.
  • Proficiency in airspace risk assessment and sUAS mission planning.
  • Strong understanding of UTM systems, remote ID, and airspace management technologies.
  • Ability to work with ATC and other regulatory bodies to obtain flight approvals and waivers.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or in team settings.



Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with radar systems, detect-and-avoid technologies, or UAS ground control software.
  • Knowledge of airspace modeling and simulation tools.
  • Certification in sUAS operations (e.g., FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certification).
  • Experience working on DoD sUAS programs or other government-related UAS initiatives.
