Position Description

As a communications coordinator in the Office of Marketing & Communications, you will support the Academic Innovation & Student Success (AISS) unit within the Office of the Provost at Texas Tech University. This position plays an important role in informing the campus community and constituents about student success through written and digital communications.

About the Department and/or College

In Marketing & Communications we deliver high-quality communications that tell the story of Texas Tech in the most compelling way possible.

Major/Essential Functions


  • Assist in planning, writing, and editing content for internal and external communications, including, but not limited to, social media, emails, website updates, and marketing materials.
  • Lead the Student Engagement social media presence, including creating and executing strategy, developing and reviewing content, overseeing student contributors, scheduling posts, and tracking performance.
  • Provide general social media guidance to various AISS departments to ensure compliance with university and industry best practices.
  • Assist with the management of various AISS department web pages ensuring accuracy, clarity, and alignment with Texas Tech's brand standards.
  • Assist with producing knowledge articles, including writing and editing content, ensuring the accuracy of the information and correct formatting, and publishing.
  • Support the development and execution of strategic communication plans that promote student success programs, initiatives, and events.
  • Maintain strong relationships and collaborate with AISS departments to develop plans to engage strategically with individual target audiences.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field and two to four years of experience working in communications.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Two to four years of relevant experience in social media management or digital communications. Understanding of strategic communications and marketing.
  • Previous experience in communications, journalism, marketing, or public relations, preferably in a higher education setting.
  • Social media certificate and/or familiarity with social media management tools
  • Possess strong written, visual, and verbal communication skills with attention to audience, detail, and accuracy, ensuring messaging is clear and engaging across various platforms.
  • Have a solid understanding of various social media platforms/tools and experience in managing accounts effectively to increase engagement.
  • Be proficient in using content management systems (CMS) to manage web projects, with an understanding of best practices to ensure accessibility and optimal user experience.
  • Show adaptability to shifting project needs and priorities while maintaining excellent organizational skills to efficiently manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Be self-motivated and capable of working both independently and within a collaborative team. Possess an understanding of AP writing style and the ability to communicate complex information that resonates with diverse student audiences
  • Have experience designing print and digital content in Adobe Creative Cloud and other platforms such as Canva.

Special Instructions to Applicants

In this role, you will work closely with the director of marketing and communications for AISS and colleagues in the Office of Marketing & Communications on written communications, website maintenance, social media management, design, and other media to communicate with stakeholders.

Your background in social media management will be key as you guide efforts to effectively engage and connect with students across different platforms, strengthening awareness and promoting student success initiatives within the campus community.
