About the Department:

Lipscomb's Beaman Library is entering an exciting time of transformation and innovation. Lipscomb University seeks to create a Learning Commons. Key departments providing essential academic services to students have been identified and assembled (Library Services, Coggin Family Academic Success Center, Center for Teaching and Learning, Career Development Center, and the Office of Accessibility and Learning Supports). This collaboration will seamlessly support students' academic success by meeting current scholastic needs and expanding to encourage scholastic creativity. Thus, Beaman Library seeks a dynamic, forward-thinking, and collegial information literacy instruction/liaison librarian eager to liaise with programs, partner with faculty in their teaching and research, and engage with the development of students' information literacy and research skills needed to succeed in college and career.

Position Description/ Job Summary:

This full-time faculty-status position. Requires 40 hours of work each week, including some evening and weekend availability.

The Instruction/Liaison Librarian is one member of an energetic, scrappy, creative team that values cultivating students' curiosity and fostering a learning environment where students and faculty are inspired to create.

Primary responsibilities include teaching information literacy skills and concepts in assigned liaison areas, working with teaching faculty in those areas to develop department- and course-specific objectives and providing customized reference services/appointments. Create, maintain, and assess digital learning objects, information literacy instructional materials, and/or services. Assists the Collection Development and Systems librarians with collection development activities related to their departmental and subject assignments.

The Instruction/liaison librarian is a dynamic contributor to peer's success and group initiatives by staying abreast of best practices in librarianship and instruction. He or she will collaborate with colleagues to develop library programming and support outreach initiatives.

Qualifications:

Required -



  • MLIS or equivalent from an ALA-accredited library program required.
  • Ability to work both independently and collegially in a changing environment.
  • Excellent organizational, technological, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Interest in and ability to provide library reference services and assistance to a wide variety of faculty and students in multiple formats.
  • Demonstrated sound judgment and emotional intelligence.
  • An appreciation for and active commitment to the university's Christian mission and a desire to contribute to that mission.


Preferred Qualifications/Experience -



  • Degree in a science field.
  • Knowledge of the scholarly publishing environment and its current trends.
  • Experience teaching or providing library instruction in face-to-face and/or virtual settings.
  • Experience with outreach and/or programming.
  • Working knowledge of new and emerging technologies.


Responsibilities of an Instruction/Liaison Librarian:



  • This full-time, faculty-status position requires 40 hours of work each week, including some evening and weekend availability.
  • Seeks to be well-informed of new and emerging technologies, library services, and pedagogy.
  • Pursues innovative approaches to reference/research assistance, library instruction, and outreach work.
  • Plans, prepares and conducts information literacy instruction in face-to-face and virtual settings with undergraduate and graduate students. As well as students pursuing certifications offered by the university.
  • Meets with faculty and students individually to provide research guidance and assistance either in person or virtual settings.
  • Works with teaching faculty in their liaison area(s) to develop department- and course-specific objectives.
  • Uses knowledge acquired as a department liaison to advise in collection development decisions.
  • Creates, maintains, and assesses digital learning objects and information literacy instructional materials (i.e. research guides, online tutorials, and training modules).
  • Works well with others, receives critical feedback, and boldly shares his or her ideas to enrich the library's initiatives.
  • Contributes to the development of original programming, concierge services, strategic outreach/partnerships, and assessment.
  • Continues professional development through self-motivated pursuit of education and mentorship opportunities.
  • Performs additional services as requested by the Senior Director of Library Services.
