Department: MED-Ophthalmology
Salary/Grade: NEX/9

Job Summary:

Conducts tests and procedures; sets up and operates equipment; records observations and measurements and collects and compiles data in a research lab; requires a practical understanding of a limited number of standard scientific techniques.

Please note: Ability to advance into independent and/or mentored research study. Position requires full-time working hours in person.

Specific Responsibilities:

Histology

  • Immunohistochemistry

Animal:

  • Husbandry
  • Breeding and screening transgenic mice
  • Tissue collection for transnetyx
  • Database management of colony

Other (please specify):

  • Maintain lab stock solutions & internals
  • Bringing mice from vivarium to lab
  • Disposal of carcass to necropsy room
  • Autoclave bottles
  • Discarding biohazardous and chemical waste
  • Refill ethanol & milliQ bottles
  • Perform monthly mouse inventory
  • Records test results and may maintain databases.
  • Completes standard and routine clerical duties such as copying, filing, data entry, word processing, etc.
  • Maintains inventory of reagents, mice and lab supplies and chemical inventory

Miscellaneous

Performs other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current undergraduate student, or have a Bachelor of Science, in Biology/Chemistry/Pre-Medical/Pre-Graduate field.

Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)

  • Previous wet-lab experience, mice handling, attention to detail, excellent communication skills and collaborative mindset, good computer skills

Target hiring range for this position will be between $17.05 - $21.31 per hour. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
