Machine Shop Supervisor

Description

Acara Solutions is seeking a Machine Shop Supervisor for our client located in the City of Buffalo.

Salary up to $90k/year

This role oversees machine shop operations and manages 10-12 union hourly employees, ensuring smooth production to meet daily goals, recording production metrics, completing reports, and maintaining safety compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

Management (55%)

  • Supervise Machinists, Toolmakers, and machine shop staff
  • Mentor and conduct performance reviews
  • Manage daily activities, training, attendance, and work schedules
  • Ensure PPE and safety compliance, correct issues, and report accidents
  • Assign tasks based on production priorities and planners
  • Oversee employee schedules, approve overtime, and coordinate with the Operations Manager
  • Collaborate with Engineering on R&D projects
  • Enforce production standards, conduct safety meetings, and support 6S housekeeping standards
  • Assist with recruitment and training of new employees

Administration (45%)

  • Track and verify work-in-progress and final parts
  • Maintain daily housekeeping and machine maintenance coordination
  • Address quality issues with Quality Control, making adjustments to meet specifications
  • Attend Gemba walks, track machine shop part shortages, and complete payroll reviews
  • Collaborate with CNC Programmer and facilitate transition of manual to CNC machining
  • Coordinate part subcontracting with Purchasing
  • Manage departmental KPIs and provide flex coverage for other supervisors as needed
Job Requirements
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma
  • At least 3 years of experience in machine shop supervision
Preferred Skills & Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a union environment
  • Familiarity with CNC machining
