Overview

The Loan Review Officer conducts ongoing evaluations of loan portfolio quality and composition, ensuring compliance with Lending Policies. This role involves identifying problem loans promptly and exercising discretion, independent judgment, and strong interpersonal skills in the credit function.

The Loan Review Officer plays a critical role in risk management by analyzing loan performance and communicating findings to senior management, thereby contributing to the Bank's overall financial health and regulatory compliance.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

    Conduct comprehensive reviews of the loan portfolio to provide senior management and the Audit Committee with independent, objective assessments of credit quality, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards and internal policies.
  • Independently review individual loans to assess grading and identify credit quality trends. Evaluate adherence to credit policy, underwriting standards, and loan administration procedures, identifying areas for improvement and necessary corrective actions.
  • Work closely with the Finance Department to refine methodologies for calculating the allowance for loan losses, contributing to accurate financial reporting and risk management.
  • Analyze various product segments for asset quality and concentration risks, communicating findings and recommendations to account officers and senior lenders to inform loan grading decisions.
  • Monitor administrative and operational loan systems to ensure compliance with policies and regulatory requirements, including credit analysis and loan servicing practices.
  • Identify and report on areas of concern to the Management Enterprise Risk Committee and the Board Enterprise Risk Committee, developing actionable recommendations to mitigate risks.
  • Assess the effectiveness of implemented review recommendations and management responses through structured follow-ups, ensuring continuous improvement in loan portfolio management.
  • Engage with bank examiners and external auditors during examinations and audits, providing insights into the loan portfolio and allowance for loan losses.
  • Recommend changes to credit policies based on findings from reviews and industry best practices to enhance risk management.
  • Undertake special projects as assigned, applying analytical skills to address complex challenges within the loan review process.


Qualifications

  • 2-4 years of experience in commercial credit analysis, lending or as an examiner in a regulatory enviornment.
  • Loan review experience should include the following types of lending activity: commercial real estate; construction & land development; commercial & industrial loans (C&I); asset based lending; trade finance; etc.

  • Understanding commercial loan structures, underwriting, collateral evaluation, cash flow analysis, and associated control/approval processes.

  • Experience with industry accepted loan policy standards and credit administration practices.

  • Solid ability to apply loan risk rating systems to categorize the quality of a particular loan, using regulatory risk rating definitions.

  • Strong emphasis in accounting, financial analysis, and trend analysis.

  • In-depth understanding of regulatory examination procedures required.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Strong report writing skills.

  • Must be detail oriented with leadership, supervisory, and staff development skills.

  • PC skills, including experience with MS Word and MS Excel.

  • Formal credit training preferred.
  • Credit Risk Certified (CRC) designation preferred.


Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or related area.
