Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking an Engagement Specialist for the The Institute for the Study of Employee Ownership and Profit Sharing at the School of Management and Labor Relations to support its marketing and communications strategy.

Among the key duties of the position are the following:

  • Develops and implements a strategic marketing and communications plan to strengthen awareness of the Institute and its work among supporters, stakeholders, and prospective stakeholders and target audiences.
  • Identifies market research sources to help target multiple audiences including business owners, professional associations, and Chambers of Commerce
  • Oversees the continued development and use of the Institute brand and strengthen brand identity across key stakeholder audiences.
  • Works in tandem with Institute leadership to identify emerging issues, recognize marketing and communications opportunities and solutions, and define and execute appropriate strategies to support them.
  • Oversees and manages the development and sharing of printed materials and electronic communications.
  • Reviews and prepares copy intended for public consumption to ensure its quality and alignment with strategic communications goals.
  • Designs and edits reports, articles, toolkits, briefs, and other published items, as well as event programs, outreach materials, infographics and other program collateral as needed.
  • Manages communications-related freelancers/vendors as needed to support programs.
  • Develops and manage email and mail communications with key audiences.
  • Curates and develops social media tools or content as needed.
  • Develops and maintains systems for effective communications work, including systems for managing contacts, collateral, and calendars.
  • Contributes to the building of organizational systems and processes that support effective ongoing management and information-sharing.
  • Maintains organization-wide communications calendar, and work with the Director to prioritize and integrate ad hoc work to a preset communications plan.
  • Creates, assembles and maintains key internal collateral (impact data, historical performance, promotional text) to support promotion of the Institute and its work.
  • Supports with editing materials such as funding proposals, grant reports, and donor/funder communications.
  • Liaisons and collaborates with relevant staff and volunteers.
  • Initiates and supports regular methods of communicating with individuals who support and have potential to support the Institute.
  • Participates in staff meetings, discussions, and committees.
  • Liaisons with both Institute and Rutgers University administrative staff.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field.
  • Five years of marketing and communications experience; or an equivalent combination of education/experience in the discipline.

Certifications/Licenses
Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic design skills and familiarity with print and digital design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite and others.
  • Experience or knowledge of working with an academic or research institution.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience writing, copy editing and proofreading.
  • Strong marketing and market research skills, including experience developing digital and social media campaigns.
  • Experience developing and executing strategic marketing and communications plans.
  • Working knowledge of basic office tools (Microsoft Office Suite, CRM systems, social media platforms and applications, online project management systems, online/remote meeting tools).
  • Experience developing and maintaining systems and processes for communications.
  • Familiarity with or interest in employee ownership will be important to cultivate.
