Job Summary

Responsible for the management, direction and support of the Plumbing Unit. Plans, organizes, directs and evaluates the activities assigned to these positions. This position demonstrates strong leadership, organizational, and time management skills.

  • Provides supervision in the operations of the Plumbing Unit. Plans, organizes, directs, and evaluates the activities assigned and overall supervision and direction of the maintenance, repair, renovation, and alteration of equipment needs. Works closely with the Administration of the Facilities Department.
  • Reviews and evaluates the work of subordinate employees, and monitors their assigned work schedules. Recommends disciplinary actions when necessary, counsels and motivates employees in job-related areas.
  • Recommends the hiring of personnel assigned to these trades. Monitors the personnel attendance records and time attendance reports, prepares employee performance evaluations and monitors accident reports when needed.
  • Monitors the maintenance, repair and alteration work by commercial contract personnel. Directs the scope of the service, work to be performed and ensures contract compliance. Assists Project Managers in the supervision and responsibility of the total construction effort in accordance with design, budget, quality and schedules. Monitors the financial accounts assigned to the incumbent's Unit's budget.
  • Serves as an University card user for departmental transactions. Adheres to University credit card policies and procedures.
  • Performs and directs subordinates with University emergency closing procedures for hurricanes, storms and/or any other natural disaster.
  • Issues work orders to subordinates, and assigns staff to be available for emergency requests and special assignments of projects. Performs periodic inspections of all work assigned to subordinates, monitors record keeping of work orders assigned as to completion times and materials used on each job assignment. Provides technical assistance for unusual or undetermined problems.
  • Ensures employees are equipped with proper tools, safety equipment, and assists in establishing standards of workmanship, performance and materials.
  • Participates in on-the-job training of subordinates and the implementation of new or updated programs and EH&S safety training.
  • Maintains daily contact with contractors to aid in meeting their deadline. Directly contacts vendor for parts and equipment. Authorized to make regular and emergency purchases through blanket PO's and requisitions, following FM purchasing/receiving procedures.
  • Maintains and inventories equipment parts and supplies. Obtains and reviews available catalogs to investigate and determine best parts or equipment for repair and maintenance needs. Trouble-shoots emergency equipment required at the buildings.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED and two (2) years of relevant experience; OR an equivalent combination of relevant education, experience, and/or vocational/technical training. Valid Florida Driver's License - Class E
