Job Description Summary:UCAR/CPAESS (Cooperative Programs for the Advancement of Earth System Science) is excited to announce a call for applications for the 2025 Weather Program Office Innovation for Next Generation Scientists (WINGS) Dissertation Fellowship Program.
NOAA's Weather Program Office (WPO) and UCAR's Cooperative Programs for the Advancement of Earth System Science (CPAESS) have established the WINGS Dissertation Fellowship for PhD candidates to focus their dissertation research on an area of scientific importance for the broader Weather Enterprise. This year, the Fellowship will be focused on the Earth Prediction Innovation Center (EPIC) and the Joint Transfer Technology Initiative (JTTI) programs within the Weather Program Office. This Fellowship will provide two years of funding to PhD candidates in support of innovative weather and climate research and engineering projects. WINGS Fellows will be UCAR employees. The WINGS Fellowship is designed for PhD candidates who have completed their required coursework, and in the beginning stages of writing a dissertation. Fellows will work with their academic advisor and a mentor recommended by WPO and CPAESS, to provide guidance during the dissertation process. The WINGS Fellowship will enable its Fellows to gain insights into their respective fields of study, support the Fellows' integration into the workforce, and offer a unique opportunity to contribute to forecast model development. Position Term: This is a 2-year term position and is based on continued program funding with the potential for further extension.
