3rd Shift - Pre-Furnace Inspector

Pre-Furnace Inspector

Under the directions of the Manufacturing Manager, incumbent is responsible for the inspection of quality pre-furnaced glass.

DUTIES
  • Observes imperfections in glass including scratches, chips, scuffs, runs, pits, paint defects, and supplier defects, determining what is passable.
  • Notifies production supervision immediately if a product is out of specification.
  • Helps to determine the root cause of various defects and works in a team role to help eliminate the cause if possible.
  • Reads and follows all specification sheets for outside and inside customers when available.
  • Verifies that all glass produced complies with customer requirements as specified on customer work order and blueprints / mylar or template.
  • Sets-up and applies silk screen trademark to glass when required.
  • The racks inspected glass appropriately dependent on next operation.
  • Correctly completes production and quality assurance paperwork as required.
  • Performs preventive maintenance duties as required.
  • Observes and adheres to all safety related rules and procedures.
  • Assisting in departmental housekeeping, maintaining a clean and orderly workstation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to understand quality standards associated with each application.
  • Ability to use tape measure and understand specification sheets.
  • Ability to read blueprint(s) and interpret tolerances noted on the customer print(s).
  • Ability to work in fast paced environments.
  • Ability to communicate with team member(s) and leadership verbally and in writing regarding status of inspections and other relevant standards.
  • Must have ability to do simple calculations.

DIFFICULTY OF WORK

The work consists of simple and relatively standardized inspection processes. The understanding and ability to make practical application of the above requirements is essential to the operation to ensure the production of quality products. A significant degree of care and skill is necessary to ensure that the process continues, and product delivery occurs with minimal amount of disruption to production.

RESPONSIBILITY

To ensure that all glass is inspected, and that deficient product is caught before proceeding to next operation. Work is reviewed throughout the process and upon completion for quality of production. Operators are made aware of out of specification material in a timely manner so resolution can be made with minimal scrap. Errors made in the inspection of glass may result in delays in production, safety concerns, scrap, re-work and dissatisfaction of customer expectation.

PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS

Close communication between incumbent and Operator is necessary to ensure quality and quality production of glass. Incumbent also has contact with other plant team members. The purpose of these contacts is to exchange information regarding specific processes within the line and to maintain production standards and goals and to work effectively as a production team.

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

Frequent heavy lifting may be necessary while inspecting and packing glass. Bending, stooping, squatting and reaching may be necessary to ensure quality inspection from all strategic locations and to pack and secure inspected products. Physical effort is exerted regularly for sustained periods and may include heavy lifting, pulling, pushing of material more than eighty (80) lbs.Job is fast paced and requires the ability to make good decisions quickly.

Supervisory Responsibility: None

Work Authorization/Security Clearance: Must be able to pass EVerify.

Hours: Sunday-Thursday; 10:00pm-6:00am
