1st Shift - Vertical Furnace Operator

Bending Furnace

Under the direction of the Shift Supervisor, incumbent is responsible for the production of quality bent glass.

Duties and Responsibilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Builds hanger set-up in appropriate and timely manner to achieve highest, quality yield possible.
  • Oversees all press settings including the changing of all tempering and regulation parameters.
  • Changes and sets up molds for specific job as necessary.
  • Installation of air templates and set-ups.
  • Oversees the placement of the Recipe or TP and RP in the computer.
  • Set up and installation of tong boards.
  • Familiarity with specific commands in furnace.
  • Troubleshooting of furnace as necessary.
  • Records every run by ensuring that appropriate paperwork has been documented.
  • Observes and adheres to all safety related rules and procedures.
  • Assisting in departmental housekeeping, maintaining a clean and orderly workstation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to read, write and understand settings on Furnace.
  • Ability to understand how temperature and air pressure affect the process.
  • Understanding of associated computer and relevant software application.
  • Knowledge of set-up sheets pertaining to the press panel and press on Furnace.
  • Ability to understand quality standards associated with each application.
  • Must have ability to do simple calculations.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects and bend, stoop and squat when performing sometimes strenuous manual labor.

DIFFICULTY OF WORK

Work consists of some complex tasks and procedures with the outcome of the product often difficult to ascertain. A significant degree of care and skill is necessary to ensure that the process continues, and product delivery occurs with minimal amount of disruption to the customer.

RESPONSIBILITY

Work is of some complexity requiring a moderate degree of decision making in the application of procedures and methods in determining appropriate remedies for varied and diverse set-up problems. Work is performed under the direction of the shift supervisor, with periodic review of assignments.

PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS

Incumbent has contact with other plant employees. The purpose of these contacts is to exchange information regarding immediate needs and specific processes within the production line and to maintain production and quality standards and goals.

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

Incumbent works with frequent exposure to dust, grease, extreme temperature, and involved in work that may involve major injury or loss of life. Physical effort is exerted regularly for sustained periods and may include heavy lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, and bending.

Supervisory Responsibility: None

Work Authorization/Security Clearance: Must be able to pass EVerify.

Hours: Monday-Thursday; 6:00am-4:00pm
