Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
The Educational Research Methodology program is housed in the Department of Information, Library, and Research Sciences within the School of Education at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, which is classified by The Carnegie Foundation as a research intensive university.
The Educational Research Methodology program is a strong internationally recognized program in educational measurement and evaluation, offering undergraduate courses and M.S., M.S./Ph.D. and Ph.D. programs that prepare graduate students to compete for top-tier positions in academia and the private sector. ERM offers an extensive curriculum in educational measurement, evaluation, and quantitative methodology. Hands-on, practical learning experiences of students in ERM are facilitated and supported by the Office of Assessment, Evaluation, and Research Services ( OAERS), which assists with securing student internship opportunities, research grants, and contracts pertaining to evaluation, measurement, and research methodology. The ERM program seeks to continue its tradition of rigorous training in measurement and quantitative methodologies and is seeking applicants who share that vision.
Position Summary
This position involves research, teaching, student advising and mentoring, and service responsibilities for the undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Information Science and the Masters and Doctoral programs in Research, Measurement, and Evaluation. This position will engage in teaching and scholarship within the broad area of quantitative methodology and the intersection of quantitative methodology with emerging generative and/or analytic applications such as artificial intelligence (AI), large language models, machine learning, big data mining, or other emerging techniques.

Expertise in quantitative methodology with a focus in either educational statistics or educational measurement is required. Strong preference is given for candidates with additional expertise in one or more emerging areas of data analytics and/or information generation, such as the application of AI to research and/or evaluation, AI-driven assessment, machine learning, big data mining, data visualization, or the integration of emerging areas to enhance culturally responsible assessment and evaluation. Experience with R, python or Matlab is desirable. Online teaching experience is desirable.

Responsibilities:

  • Engage in a robust research agenda that furthers the program and the field.
  • Seek and obtain external funding.
  • Participate in instruction, advising, service and scholarly activities.
  • Teach primarily face-to-face in the graduate and undergraduate programs. Some online teaching at the graduate level may also be required.
  • Mentor and advise graduate students.
  • Provide service to the department, school, university, profession, and community.

Minimum Qualifications

  • This position requires an earned doctorate in Quantitative Methodology, Educational Statistics, Educational Measurement, Educational Research Methodology, or a related discipline by start date of employment.
  • Consideration will be given to candidates who have not yet earned their doctorate at the time of application, but who anticipate earning their doctorate in the near future.
