Requisition ID req30005 Working Title Field Research Assistant Position Grade 06 Position Summary The Department of Sociology & Criminology is seeking highly motivated individuals with excellent interpersonal and communication skills who want to become part of a project working to promote the mental health and well-being of refugees and immigrants. Field research assistants will be on-call, working varying hours per week at different time points in the year, depending upon the needs of the study. This on-call position will involve assisting with the recruitment of refugee and immigrant participants; conducting online quantitative and qualitative interviews with refugee and immigrant participants; participating in research team meetings and planning sessions; and/or facilitating weekly Learning Circles. Candidates must be fluent in at least one of the following languages: Spanish, Kirundi, Kinyarwanda, Kiswahili, or French. Position may require travel to UNM offices and/or within Albuquerque and will include some work on nights and weekends. Interview job training will be provided, as well as computers or tablets for conducting interviews and Internet service. This on-call position will involve assisting with recruiting refugee and immigrant participants for a community-based study; conducting quantitative and qualitative interviews with refugee and immigrant participants; participating in research team meetings and planning sessions; and/or facilitating at weekly Learning Circles that bring together newcomer families and UNM students to learn from each other. Candidates must be fluent in at least one of the following languages: Spanish, Kirundi, Kinyarwanda, Kiswahili, or French. Position requires excellent time management, organization, and communication and interpersonal skills. Position will require individuals to conduct interviews online, may require routine travel to UNM offices and/or within Albuquerque, and will include some work on nights and weekends. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis. Preferred Qualifications * Bilingual in English (preferred) but must be fluent in at least one of the following languages: Spanish, Kirundi, Kinyarwanda, Kiswahili, or French. * Experience with refugees and/or immigrants. * Experience in multilingual, multicultural environments. * Knowledge of and experience with Rwandan, Burundian, Congolese, Ugandan, Mexican and/or Central American cultures.
