HJF is seeking a Scientist II to develop and supervise research projects. The Scientist II investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions, products and problems as well as develops new technologies and protocols.

This position will be in support of the Murtha Cancer Center Research Program (MCCRP) and Dr. Geeta Upadhyay's lab in the Department of Pathology at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS). The incumbent will work on developing Ly6 biomarker-based cells, biologics and pharmaceutical inhibitors for the treatment of breast cancer and prostate cancer. The incumbent will perform hands on survival surgery in orthotopic pancreatic tumor mice models. They will have in-depth understanding of antibody-based therapeutics including bi-specific antibodies for cancer treatment and high-level insight into functional assays to determine functional CART cells and NK cell based approaches.

Note: This work site requires that Non-US Citizen incumbents have lived in the US three out of the past five years.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, executes, and oversees laboratory research. Formulates experimental hypotheses and designs experimental protocols.
  • Monitors scientific literature. Prepares written reports and manuscripts for submission to scientific journals and prepares patent applications.
  • Coordinates and prepares new grant and funding applications.
  • Processes and interprets experimental data.
  • Makes scientific observations, maintains detailed workbooks/documentation, and ensures documentation fulfills generally accepted professional/industry standards.
  • Collaborates with other technical and professional staff. Trains and supervises technical staff.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Assigned Lead: May recommend the following: employee hiring, disciplinary action, and starting salaries; provide input on employee performance evaluations.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Doctoral Degree required.
  • Minimum of 5-8 years experience required

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of applicable complex scientific procedures and techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and supervise others.
  • Experience with Oncology research required.
  • Rodent handling experience required.
  • Pathology experience required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.

Compensation

  • The annual salary range for this position is $88,600-$130,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Final salary will be determined based on market analysis, experience, and education.
