Job Summary

This position reports to the Nurse Manager of Cardiovascular Services which includes the Cardiovascular Support Unit (CSU) & Vascular Access Lab (VAL). These units specialize in pre and post management of cardiovascular and/or in evectional nephrology procedures. The incumbent will be responsible to provide direct patient care and operational support. Duties include assisting patients through the continuum of care, patient transport, daily unit operations, and other support to the nurses and medical staff as necessary to assure efficient patient flow.

Minimum Qualifications

  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) or UC Davis Health CPR
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2 years experience in Healthcare field
  • Microsoft environment and computing environment proficient.
  • Complete working knowledge of, and skill to apply practices, principles and techniques of patient care related to area of expertise.
  • Excellent Customer service and Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain a friendly, welcoming environment for the department's customers; to demonstrate an interested, understanding, compassionate manner, to maintain a courteous and calm demeanor; and to use a proactive approach to negotiate with and persuade others to take action.
  • Written and oral communication skills to clearly and concisely provide information, explanations and instructions using appropriate medical terminology, and to elicit information from others with varying levels of ability to understand, including individuals who are ill or distressed, or who may not speak English.
  • Ability to maintain composure, efficiency and a positive, customer-service oriented manner during periods of peak workload, with frequent interruptions, under tight deadlines, and when interacting with challenging customers who may be ill, angry, or emotionally distressed.
  • Problem-solving skills to independently recognize and define a problem; identify the resources available to help solve the problem; create and implement viable solutions; and follow through to ensure the problem is resolved to the satisfaction of all parties.
  • Decision-making skills to independently exercise delegated authority to take action, and to recognize when it is appropriate to seek assistance from others when limits of delegated authority have been reached. Ability to exercise discretion to ensure that patient confidently is maintained, and a professional, respectful department environment exists at all times.
  • Ability to wear radiation safety apparel weighing up to 25 lbs. and stand on feet for extended periods of time. Working knowledge of safety practices and equipment operational procedures.

Department Overview

The Cardiovascular Support Unit (CSU) is an eleven-bed unit within the Surgery and Emergency Services Pavilion (SESP) Suite 1P560. It is composed of one large room with space for seven beds or gurneys and two bays with two gurneys each. The CSU provides specialized nursing care to individuals that are young adults (age 16 and above) through geriatrics during pre-procedure and all post procedure phases. Nursing care is provided for individuals who undergo non-invasive procedures such as cardioversion and tilt table testing as well as invasive procedures that require post-procedural monitoring such as cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology procedures and transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE).

Work Environment

  • The ability to push gurneys/patients in excess of 300 lbs, assist patient and staff with moving to and from gurneys, beds, procedure table and wheelchairs in a safe manner.

  • The ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and variable hours.
  • Must wear uniform in accordance with UC Davis Health Policy.
