As a Senior Technical Writing Specialist, you will be a key player in a collaborative team environment, producing and validating technical documentation for our Navy customers and sailors. With a focus on defense and national security, your role is vital in ensuring that front-line decision-makers have access to clear, accurate, and reliable information about our systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create and Maintain Documentation: Develop high-quality technical materials such as procedures, user guides, release notes, troubleshooting documents, and system descriptions.
- Collaboration Across Teams: Partner with engineering, product, and business teams throughout all stages of product development, from design and testing to deployment and operation, ensuring documentation aligns with product updates and customer needs.
- Produce Clear and User-Focused Content: Generate, review, and edit technical documentation that is both informative and easy to understand for users.
- Enhance Technical Writing Tools: Contribute to the development and improvement of writing tools, including style guides, document templates, and documentation lifecycle processes.
- Ensure Compliance and Accuracy: Work closely with engineering teams to ensure all technical content is accurate, up-to-date, and compliant with regulatory standards, while providing a seamless and intuitive user experience.
- Drive Continuous Improvement: Actively participate in improving documentation practices, processes, and tools to streamline workflows and maintain high standards.
Your Impact: Your work will directly support Navy personnel by ensuring they have the best possible documentation to operate, troubleshoot, and maintain critical systems. By producing well-written, organized, and accurate materials, you will play a crucial role in enhancing operational effectiveness and readiness.
Required Skills / Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree
- Minimum of 2 years experience in generating technical documentation for an informed audience
- Minimum of 2 years experience with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and PDF file type formats
- Minimum of 2 years experience in documentation revision/version control
- Minimum of 2 years experience with reading and interpreting software and hardware user documentation, complex technical products, and highly structured certification processes
- Minimum of 2 years experience in digital collaboration environments such as Teams and SharePoint.
Preferred Skills / Qualifications:
- Master's Degree
- Prior use of document automation platforms, for example, PandaDoc.
- Basic development proficiency - we value the ability to apply technical best practices to documentation systems
- Demonstrated passion for excellent documentation and user experiences
- Clear and persuasive writing and in-person communication skills for a variety of audiences
- Solid knowledge of the structure and content of the English language, including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar
- Strong written communication skills and the ability to tailor communication to the target audience through effective listening and interviewing skills
- Solid understanding of DoD MIL standards and style guides and the ability to adhere to and implement such standards to technical documentation
- Passion to learn new information quickly and handle increasing responsibilities with growing complexity
- A team player who thrives in collaborative environments and revels in team success
- The ability to thrive with a high level of autonomy and responsibility, managing competing demands and occasional tight deadlines
