General Summary of Position Identifies, collects, manages and analyzes clinical information on persons diagnosed and/or treated with cancer at the facility. Utilizes the Cancer Registry data system to disseminate clinical information in accordance with professional ethics. Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.Adheres to policies and procedures as required by the American College of Surgeons (ACoS) for accreditation and effective functioning of registry.Assists researchers conducting cancer-related studies and research projects, provides guidance to staff and others in the use of the Cancer Registry data system including creating and preparing reports.Codes, stages, and enters into the database each case accessioned to the Cancer Registry utilizing FORDS, ICD-O, AJCC TNM, and Collaborative Staging standardized data set guidelines.Contacts physicians and other entities to obtain additional treatment information as needed. Performs followup functions when appropriate.Meets all quality, timeliness and productivity standards for abstracting as defined by the Cancer Registry Coordinator.Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as appropriate. Participates in meetings, serves on committees and represents the department and hospital/facility in community outreach efforts as appropriate.Responsible for quality review of non-CTR and/or peer CTR abstracting as defined by the Cancer Registry Coordinator. Assures validity, accuracy and completeness of data in Cancer Registry.Supports and staffs Cancer Committee, Cancer Conference and other cancer program activities as requested by or in the absence of the Cancer Registry Coordinator.
Minimum Qualifications Education
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Associate's degree in an Allied Health field of study preferred
Experience
- 1-2 years registry experience required
Licenses and Certifications
- Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) required
- RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) certification preferred or
- eligibility for RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator) certification preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Working knowledge of various computer software applications, including Microsoft Word, data abstracting programs, and conventional medical record coding systems.
