The job is clinical in nature and entails most of the typical duties encountered by a medical physicist in a RadOnc department. The position reports to the Director of Physics. Physics is a stand-along department staffed with 2 therapy physicists, 2 diagnostic physicists, 3 dosimetrists, 1 linac engineer, and 2 physics assistants. The Radiation Oncology department is supported by 2 physicians, 2 physicists and 3 dosimetrists. Patients are treated on 2 Varian LINACS, a Cyberknife and an HDR unit. Typical volumes are about 85 patients/day. Physics staff also supports Y90 liver spheres, theranostic agents such as LuDOTA and Pluvitco and prostate seed implants. A new Cancer Center building is currently in the planning stages, come be part of our exciting future. Measures and accumulates radiological physics data, and provides analysis and documentation of data pertinent to clinical application of physics and radiation safety in medicine. Provides quality service in a caring and professional manner. Actively commits to team efforts, provision for cost effectiveness, service excellence, and respect for everyone by demonstrating actions which support the hospital mission, goals, and objectives, motto, service steps, and standards.
- Provides orientation and continued mentorship/support for Junior Physicists. Acts as primary point of contact for complex questions, project development and educational needs. Partners with Junior Physicists to deliver these items, as appropriate.
- Performs surveys to assess clinical and radiation safety performance of radiation-producing equipment used in medicine.
- Provides physics services as mandated by regulatory agencies, to include NRC, JCAHO and BRH.
- Maintain quality control program on radiation measuring and radiation-producing equipment.
- Leads or assist in developmental projects in radiological physics.
- Teaches courses and in-services in radiation safety and radiological physics.
- Provides for support of clinical radiological physics needs in Radiation Oncology, Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine.
- Performs additional pertinent tasks as assigned by Director of Physics.
- Maintains professional growth.
What We Require:
Education: Masters/Doctorate in Radiological Physics or appropriately related field required.
Experience: Prior related experience required. For diagnostic physicists, the ability to independently perform evaluations of diagnostic equipment, including ACR testing of CT & MRI scanners, and gamma cameras. Qualified to test mammography machines under MQSA is also required. For therapeutic physicists, the ability to independently perform annual and monthly LINAC QA, and be listed on the RAM license as an Authorized Medical Physicist.
Licensure/Certifications/Registration: Certification by the American Board of Radiology in Diagnostic Physics, Therapeutic Physics or Physics of Nuclear Medicine, or an equivalent certification as appropriate, is required.
Other Minimum Qualifications: Effective interpersonal, communication (verbal and written) and teamwork skills required. Must successfully complete orientation and competency validation for position.
