Summary

This Design Engineering position is crucial for Regal Rexnord's cost reduction and product line simplification efforts that are aligned with the company's Business Strategy and Operating Plan. The Design Engineer I involves executing engineering tasks independently and with cross-functional teams.Projects include VAVE design, supply chain cost reduction, and operational productivity improvement. Flexibility in prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines is essential. Assignments will involve aspects of design engineering, material cost out (MCO) activities, 80/20 business philosophy, project management, vendor collaboration, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will need to have a understanding of engineering fundamentals and be able to apply them to projects that are focused on component design and manufacturing processes.

This position will be based out of Regal Rexnord's Charlotte, North Carolina facility and will report directly to the Engineering Manager of Commercial Gearing - VAVE, who is located in our Milwaukee WI headquarters.

Responsibilities

  • Design and analysis of gear drive components and accessories (castings, fabrications, revolving elements, shafts) meeting cost and capability targets.

  • Manage workload and priorities to align with milestone dates and stretch goals of the project.

  • Monitor projects through a gated process, collaborating with team members to optimize products and achieve savings goals (VAVE/MCO/VCP).

  • Gather component cost data, perform cost analysis and identify cost reduction opportunities.

  • Improve or optimize component designs considering manufacturability, quality and cost, with an understanding of required design analysis methods.

  • Prepare estimates of material cost out or process improvements including labor and assembly capabilities.

  • Write drafting instructions; perform drawing reviews, approval, and release coordination.

  • When appropriate, create test plans to validate design concepts and material or manufacturing changes, summarizing results and documenting conclusions.

  • Travel to our production facilities as needed to observe current methods or implement changes.

  • Work closely with Manufacturing Engineering regarding product design changes; including evaluation of tooling, fixtures, workflow, and assembly.

  • Provide technical support to the Sourcing and Quality teams with vendor pre-approval, PPAP Charter creation, drawing review, specifications, deviation review, and PPAP part approvals.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field from an accredited university

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and effectively prioritize and execute tasks with a sense of urgency.

  • Effective communication skills (Verbal, Email, Messaging, and Video) with ability to collaborate effectively in a cross-functional team environment with remote global resources.

  • Knowledge of the design and manufacturing processes of components such as castings, fabrications, forgings, sheet metal parts, fittings, and fasteners, gained through Internships, Co-Op's or other work experiences is desirable.

  • Desire to learn, build knowledge and receive training on the design, application, and manufacturing processes of multiple types of industrial gear drives and related components (helical, spur, worm, and bevel gears, shafts, bearings, housings, and seals)

  • SAP Or Oracle ERP Systems experience is preferred

This includes cooperation with production, engineering, and maintenance personnel, as well as external customers and vendors.

  • Results-Oriented and Self-Motivated: Self-directed and motivated, effectively managing time and multiple priorities to meet deliverables in a timely manner.

  • Willingness to Travel: Willing and able to travel domestically up to 10% for site visits, vendor/customer meetings, training events, and trade shows. Also, travel to production facilities to observe current methods or implement changes.
